    hi there

can somebody help me find a cichlid? looks like a convict except that it is slightly bigger towards the head area. the black lines look like extra 3d bars. it looks very cute. have not seen it in fish shops before but on the cichlid farm near Qian Hu. It is housed in the owners tank. slightly expensive though and was thinking of looking for it outside...

    thanx

Just a word of caution...if its the cichlid farm next to Qain Hu, you better be careful you don't get "kertuk" by the owner. Me and my friend each got "burnt" once already.

Don't know what it is cos' I went there last month so can't remember which fish you are talking about...in any case, I think it could be a hybrid cos' I'd seen him cross-breeding species of cichlids to get LHs'.

Hi,Understand the owner probably do not allow you to take pic.

    Let's do a elimination deduction-

If it is blue, it is a good chance a malawi cichlid.

If it is blue with black vertical even bars then likely to be a munba - the pseudotropheus family- zebra etc.

If it is all above and th ebody shape is elongated, quite definitely a P.tropheus.

When you said fur like, there is one among the pseudotropheus that that blue and black contrast is such that there is a velvety texture to it.
Have a look at the mouth, is it one of those black but around the lips like abit worn out worn out due to grazing?

If all the above- it is a Pseudotroupheus demosoni.

    You are correct them

And the price- I know for this fish, his quote is $60 for a 4 to 5 inches fish. Correct?

He is interested in his LH only. The rest he not too interested. Pester him to lower the price. In the market the rainbow sells them at $28 for a 2.5 inch fish.
