Hello! This is my 1st post (definitely won't be the last!). Would like to share some pics of my darling discus (Pigeon Blood pair with offsprings and a blue turquiose). The 3 adults live in my planted 3ft community. It's only when the pair spawned and i transferred them to a 2ft for rearing fry. Happy viewing (apologies for some blurry shots though).

    My Latest Babies

Here are some pics of my latest batch of Pigeon Blood strain. This is the crowd after even after first culling. They are so active that there's no way i could take a good sharp pic of them They are now 3 weeks old (from free-swimming) and away from parents for >1 week. Active seeking food like frozen bh, bbs, freezed-dried brineshrimp and crushed tetrabits. WC at least 3 times @ 50% each, normal declorinated and dechloromined tap water with no heater required.

    Hi Puffer,

Nice discus you got there. you even managed to spawned them ...

I have kept 9 discus for 2 months already, but they seem like growing very slow....

Read from here that Stunned discus will stop growing.... do you know ?

My discus seem ok in the tank and are not afraid when I stand in front of the tank to look at them. Any idea that my discus are stunned ??? my tank size is 2.5 ft X 1 ft X 2.5 ft.

    Hi daniel

just to share what i have read and some experience from other discus keepers.

If you want to know if your discus are stunned or not you can,
    1. look at the size of their eyes, in propotion to their overall body size. If you find their eyes a bit too large for their size, likely you got a stunned one.

    2. the "bridge" of their face( i am not sure how to describe the part, but its the thickness of their body in between their eyes.) is too big/ thick comparing to their other mates, likely your fish is stunned.

In a tank full of discus, there's a high chance 1 or 2 will be stunned. And of course if your tank is too small for their growth, they all would be stunned as well. I hope this helps a little, because i am still a green horn in fishkeeping.( especially discus, i haven't keep any of them yet~! )

do correct me if i am wrong

Puffer, you got very nice discus. i guess it is not easy to breed them.

    Hi bro,

    Thanks for answering my query.

So if Discus is stunned, they will not grow any larger in size ???

If my tank size is 2.5 ft x 1 ft x 2.5 ft. is it too small to house 9 discus ? (size about 2.5 inch)

Now its ok. But you need to upgrade to a 4 feet tank if you want your discus to grow much bigger.

Sorry for such late reply. How old are your discus? wks' right. You need to upgrade them to a bigger tank soon to prevent them stunted. Need to feed and do water changes more frequently also.

    Puffer
