i bought a Eheim classic 2213 today. When i open up the instruction manual, it's stated this model come with 2 version, one with filter pad another one with filter media. When i open up the filter, i noticed mine come with filter pad instead of filter media.
However on top of the box, it's stated "WITH FILTER MEDIA"

Can anyone tell me if 2213 does really only comes with filter pad?

it comes in all manner of "packages"
with nothing, with filter pads only, with media only, with everything etc etc
depends on each shop thats selling how they repackage and price it

whats more important is what you got vs what you paid
then you'll know if its a fair price

I didn't know they do re-package ... So even i got it at a higher price i can't do anything right?
anyway looks like i have to get the filter media set. I googled that there is a Eheim Media set for 2213. Anyone knows what's the price range like? Or would it be cheaper if i get the item seperately since i already got the filter pad?

    depends on what you paid
but i believe for the classic line of filters
filter and filter wool/pad set is quite common
if its come with media then its actually less common
perhaps the media sticker on the box meant the wool??

depending on how you want the filter to be setup you can then decide what media you want to get

If i remember correctly...a brand new one with all wool media + an extra pack of wool filter media would set you back at most 9red notes.

You don't have to buy Eheim brand media. It's expensive.

    Just get:
Top layer: Fine filter pad (aka fine wool)
2nd layer: Coarse filter pad (Eheim's blue pad, but you can try finding other brands. Beware the black ones... some of them are meant to work like activated carbon and don't want that in a planted tank.)
3rd layer: Sintered glass (Biohome is pretty good. Get the one that is seeded with bacteria (red I think))
    Bottom layer: Ceramic rings

You can try Nature Aquarium. Chan, the owner, can show you what you need.

And technically, all the 4 layers I listed above ARE filter media. Filter media can refer to filter pads as well.

Very expensive to fill up a basket with BioHome... My Eheim 2028 came with about 1.5 baskets worth of Substrat Pro... bought from NA.

i got it for 88 .... nice number but not sure if it's expensive as it only comes with the filter pad as media.

Since i got the Fine filter pad and Coarse filter pad, so i guess i'll just need the Sintered glass and ceramic ring. But how much do i really need to buy for my 2213? does those come in standard pack?

I went to NA twice and seems that the person there is not as friendly as most bro mentioned here. i think maybe he doesn't like my face?

i think i also need to get the quick disconnection valves as it's not included as well? necessary?

you may also want to try lava rock. I have it in both my planted set up. For my 2213, i put a layer of about 2 inch. for my 422, i dumped in about 2 kilos worth of lava rock into my sump. it helps to keep the pH low.

88 is a fair price for 2213 and filter pads

how much of each you want to use depends on you really
about 2 kg of media (rings and sintered glass) plus the filter pads should fill up your canister nicely

That's the lowest price they can sell.
Any lower, if Qian Hu knows about it, the retailer can stop thinking about selling Eheim products.

NA should be selling cheaper than most
according to chan last time i talked to him (1 week + ago)
he mentioned thats 'cause they are selling based on the price of their last batch of stock

once that runs out, newer batch will be more expensive as price has increased

newer batch more expensive? I though should be cheaper because of the new model comming out. I saw that ecco series is quite cheap, is that true? Athough I also heard that it is not as reliable.

The simple it is the more reliable . I thing that goes for all mechanical stuff.

IMO, I feel that ecco series quite reliable. Currently, my friend using a older series, 2233 which served him well till now. The handle is not that fragile as people commented. I personally tried on the handle before to prime, open/close.

The Ecco handle is fine. I think people are just too forceful. I used two for 5+ years with no issues. Plus if you need to either open or close (I forgot which) the input/output valves before the priming arm will open completely. It's in the mentioned in the manual too. Maybe people didn't do that and try to force it.

That's the usual first impression he gives. I think he's just introverted. He gets friendlier as you visit more and he recognises you. But if you keep pestering him for lower prices, he'll ignore you or avoid you.

No need to fill up an entire basket. The box indicates how much is need for X amount of water. Just calculate how much you need and get that much. If you need more than 1 box, just get one box of red and the rest grey.

Other than the 2 types of filter pads, fill the rest of the space with ceramic rings.

Either input or output valve must open or else unable to open due to suction. Likewise for close due to pressure.
