Emersed leaf of echinodorus

Are emersed leaf of echinodorus able to "survive" in submerse environment?

I noted that my echinodorus emersed leaf are doing very badly, whereas the submersed leaf are doing great!

The emersed leaves can't change to submersed form so they will wither away. However, the new leaves will be submersed form and will do well.

It is the same if you reverse the process to convert from submersed to emersed. The submersed leaves can't change to emersed ones. Only new growth will adapt to emersed form.
