Seachem Onyx Gravel is not a base fert. OTOH, Seachem Onyx Sand can be used on its own.

JBL Aquabasis is a good cheaper alternative.

I have never tried ADA Powersand products. They seems to be designed to be used with their Aquasoil.

have you seen the seachem website? says that Onyx gravel contains all the elements for growing plants... then says that it make a good substrate... haha so not too sure wat to get... i have some dennerle base fert leftover from my friend so just curious is the standard sand form better or the gravel kind better...

Yes, I have seen the website and I am using Onyx for years.

Onyx Sand/Gravel is not a base fert. It is a sand/gravel to be used as a substrate for growing plants. (Substrate is not base fert.)
