IMO, the height of 60cm tank is too low for any angel fishes. If budget and space allow, try to go for the taller and larger tank. It saves you the trouble of having to "upsize" later.

Hello,
My pair of angel fish have recently given birth to many babies (all doing well).
I was just wondering, how many babies can keep in a 60cm tank if I buy a new one, how many in a 90cm tank (by 45 by 45) as I am still trying to figure what tank to buy, and if i can fit it in my home.
Thomas

To allow the babies to grow up with full angle fish finnages, a taller tank is often the necessity...
60cm, that is 2ft? I had never had a large number of baby fish but I would say, you can't have a lot in that small tank...
Read me! http://justikanz.blogspot.com/
I'm crypt collecting... Starting cheap, now have Cryptocoryne beckettii, C.beckettii var petchii, C.crispatula var.balansae, C.griffithii(Melted!), C.nurii, C.parva, C.pygmaea(Melted!
), C.tonkinensis(Melted!
), C.walkeri, C.wendtii 'Brown', C.wendtii 'Green', C.wendtii 'Green Gecko', C.wendtii 'Tropica' and Cryptocoryne x willisii
Oh, juggling is hard work, man!...
hey lads don't forget thomas will only be keeping them until they are saleable which should be 3-4 mths tops, imho the tank he proposes is sufficient for the amount of fry he has at the moment.
thomas don't forget the water quality has got to be kept at the optimum, daily water changes are a must so get ready for some hard work, it's a labour of love now bud. haha

I guess I will have to set up the tank in the bathroom, to make water changes easier!! A standard 3 foot tank is 90 X 45 X 45(H)cm, 2 foot tank is 60 X 30 X 30 or 40(H)cm. So how high should a true angelfish tank be?
I realy wish I could have a BIGGER tank, but a 4 foot or 5 foot tank is really out of the question in my situation. So I will have to do with 3 foot or less (even that is pushing it in my office) have a 90X45 x 45 in the living room, might have to just switch the angels into that tank!! and buy a 2 foot tank for the office and the smaller fish.

there is no answer to that question, the minimum depth should be over 15 inch and then go from there upwards, my angel tank is 25 inches deep sorry it's not in cm.
mick
actually Inches makes more sense to me as well. Inches and feet I understand, cm is what is used here so I am trying to get used to that as well. So over 2 feet. I couldn't do that in the place I would put the tank. It wouldn't suit the room. Actually I would love to have a 36"or better yet 48" X 14" X 14"(H) tank as it would fit perfect, but the fish would hate me.
Might need to just buy the wrong tank, that suits my room and then get rid of the angels as soon as I can sell them. And move to smaller fish...

if thats the only tank then so be it bud, but i wouldn't get rid of the angels tthey will cope. plus you like them, how large are they thomas?, they dont look big ones comparing them to the plants.
mick
The water depth depends on the angelfish strains that you keep. P. Altum, P. Scalare, and some high-fin/veiled-fin angelfish can grow to about 10 inches high (tip of dorsal to tip of pectoral), in such instances, they need at least 18 inches; but look best with more than 24 inches of water depth.
A 2-foot tank is rather congested for breeding angelfish. 3-foot tank is adequate but when the frys are about 1 to 2 inches (about 1 to 2 month ago), they should be reared separately from the parents; this will keep the bioload at manageable levels, and allow the parents to mate again.
With vigilance and lots of tender loving care, getting a successful lot of a few hundreds surviving to young adults is a strong possibility.
The Angels are 2 inches by 2 inches approx. The male is 2.5 inches by 2.5 inches approx.
They aren't really large ones compared to many others I have seen

The male had to be removed from the tank. He started actually eating the babies not just gathering them together. The mother was constantly attaching him, and causing stress on here and him, so I removed him to a temp tank by himself until I can by and set up the new tank and have the parents seperated from the babies (that is of the mother ever wants to be around him again!). The mother is grea, chases everything away (algae eaters, bottom feeders, etc) and will keep the babies in a small group. Has been almost 2 weeks since free swimming and they have doubled in size or more (though a few are a lot bigger and a few are a lot smaller then the average). Not really looking like angels yet, though do have some new fin development and are starting to get black spots / stripes on their bodies.
Hopefully over the weekend I can order the tank and get it by monday.

hi thomas
that usually happens with young angels as with most cichlids until they settle down, but some never do, you did right mate because she is quite capable to destroy the male.
the size you've given is a very young pair, it will take a bit of time for them to settle down.
adult angels as most of these lads will tell you can grow to 5-6 inches SL which is quite a big fish.
cheers
mick
btw, is it alright to call you tom rather than thomas, i'm only a one digit typist.
