Ok, I do dream of owning the ultimate high-tech tank with healthy and bubbling plants such as glosso and christmas moss... but reality sucks. So, armed with only one puny 36W fl tube and an internal filter (no co2, no fan, no chiller, no canister filter), I began to set up my new 2ft tank.

The following photos record the progress as of Day 1 (today):

Put in lapis sand, bogwood and plants:

    Added rocks:

    Adjusted the rocks a little:

So far so good. What do you all think? Now i cross my fingers and wait. Only time will tell whether this super low tech tank will flop or make it.

Basically all the plants on the right hand side are not for keeps. They are just meant to cycle the tank. I have not decided what plants to replace them with after they have served their purpose. Ideas anyone? Low demand plants please.

Also, can anyone help to identify the species of the crypts in the tank? I can only identify the nanas because i bought them , the rest of plants were given to me so I don't really know their names.

I previously linked to yahoo photos.. don't know why they can't work. I can see them myself though. Anyway, I've uploaded them to the AQ gallery, if it still doesn't work, I'm going to knock my head against tofu and hang myself with pasta.

Haa haa, do not waste food, just cook them and bring to my place. I can see your picture.

Low tech tank is cool. Need some patient to wait. Anyway, I prefer high tech.

    Looks good for a start.

Why don't you fill the tank further? You can fill right up to 1-2" from the brim.

You can shift the driftwood slightly towards the centre at the 1/3 point.

You can trim the stem plant such that there is a layering effect. Shorter in front and taller towards the back. You can hide your filter behind those stem plants.

You can add some hairgrass or E. tennelus to fill up the foreground.

I think that is a Echinodorus near the front on the left side. That plant could potentially grow quite large and upset the layout.

Once the crypts grow in, the tank should look great.

I will fill up the tank further when I introduce the fauna. For now, the low water level makes it easier to make changes to the tank

Good point, I will shift the wood once it is able to sink on its own. Right now, it is being held by paper weights.

The stem plants on the right side are only for temporary measure.. I think i will most probably go for the sloping down from left to right effect after i remove them..
