Trying a small 1.5ft planted tank and bought a 18W Jebo PL light after the shop recommendation. After 1 week already, my plant is neither growing nor dying. Starting with moss on driftwood only.

Qn: I read online that a 2ft tank need 2x36W PL light. If that is true, is my 1x18W PL sufficient for a 1.5ft? I somehow doubt the shop advice as my plant not growing....

Qn: Do I need Co2 for such a small planted setup?

Your lights will be sufficient. what color temperature (k) is your light?

What is the temperature of the tank?

Moss sometimes need a short adaptation period. Give it some time, you should see some light green buds. This is a sign of thier growth.

    You do not need Co2.

Dunno what is the K. I bought it together with the housing, and it is not specified on the box also. What I know is it a 18W white light.

Temperature about 26.5. I got a DIY computer fan running to cool it 24 hrs.

    No that's not true, a 2ft tank doesn't need 2x36W of light.

Your 18W PL is sufficient for your tank if you're not planning to grow plants that prefer high lighting.

Plants grow very slowly if there's no CO2 injection. However, if you inject CO2, things get complicated because the injection of CO2 introduced many variables like increased need for fertilisation, lighting and maintainence.

it's normal for moss to grow brown intially in a new tank, given sometime, they'll start to spring back to live. Your temperature is certainly ok for moss, i've the exact same setup as yours, 1.5feet tank, temperature averaging 26 degree but with co2

    visonaries,

Whilst you are keen to get a quick reply to your queries, there is no need to have multiple post of the same questions in multiple sub forums. The questions will be answered in good time.

In the meantime, I've consolidated both threads into this one and edited the title to reflect the content better.

Hope your 1.5 ft tank take off soon and remember to show us pictures!

    Cheers,

    benny, noted. Thanks!

I read the 2x36W requirement from here http://www.aqua-fish.net/show.php?cu...=article&id=31. Haha... I think that will be the valid requirement if I use CO2. Correct?

Will skip CO2 but will add some fertiliser bought from a fellow bro here. Hopefully it helps my plant to grow faster.

    Thanks guys.

For most people 36W is sufficient even if they're using CO2 But in my case I'm using 72W for my CO2-enriched 2ft tank.
