Rasbora brittani

This is a very nice and generally non-boisterous rasbora from Kalimantan. They are slighly slow in going for food and should be kept with "gentler" fishes. Apparently not a very common import, the specimens are about 4cm TL (total length). Obtained from the Great Hall of the Azmi

One of the reason I am highlighting this fish is to illustrate the care in photographing silvery fishes. When taken with automatic settings (aperture priority with evaluative metering, for example) this fish will appear to be very silvery and a bit over exposed. To see the details and the colours of this fish, I had to reduce flash compensation by 1-stop.

Sometimes the sharpness also depends on the skill of the photographer. With a good lens in the hands of a good photographer, you get the results.

You did a trial-and-error to find out about the 1-stop reduction? Or most silvery fishes have to do that?

the 1-stop is actually by trial, although I was fortunate to hit it the first time. after a while you sort of get a feel whether to go by 1/3 stops or just go the whole hog for a full stop.

yes, 2-flash in the 1ft cube, using the side-scan method (i.e. the side of the flash faces me).

I agree with the OOF...
That's a problem when shooting with a larger aperture. And difficult to do recomposing especially when they move!

I will try the side-scan method. Seems to be giving very good results...
