Sorry, didn't know where to put this thread so moderators please help me move it if it isn't in the right place.

So does anyone happen to know Amano's typical lighting schedule? Does he turn CO2 on when the lights go on or before the lights go on? What about turning it off at night?

As in Nature Aquarium Book 2, can see that he likes to use high lighting method. There is one setup he uses 81watt over 35 litres volume of water. Height of that tank is 30cm. Long illumination time too, 11hrs per day. CO2 is 1 bubble per second, dont know whether it is 24hrs basis, anyway i dont think 24hrs of CO2 is essential.

U don't have to shut your co2 off at night cause your ph will fluctuate and 12 hours of light is the norm, dusk to dawn

pH flucctuation should not be an issue if your KH is about 4 - 5 dH.

CO2 would not be used by the plants when there is no light. IMO, it would be a waste of CO2 to leave it running when the lights are off. Moreover, your critters would not appreciate the CO2 build-up.

i think amano doesnt run co2 24 hrs, in fact he seems to aerate his tanks when lights off
but he does have very long lighting hrs though.. up to 14 hrs for some setups
thats what i gather accoridng to his 2006 ada catalogue anyway
ie for one tank it stated 14 hrs lighting with blah blah bps of co2
then he has aeration for 10 hrs via his lily pipe
im not quite sure how he does it.. im assuming he raises lily pipe height to near water surface during lights off to acheive aeration effect

but point is since he states this way, i believe his co2 is only during photoperiod

I believe he connects his CO2 and lighting to the same timer.
