    Well, it depends on how you look at it...
    If you get the cheapest fans at $8 a piece, and a cheap PSU at $20(I think they have one or two of these around - but very unreliable)..

    This is what you get...
    $8*6 == $48 (costs of fans)
    $48 + $20(PSU) == $68 (Total cost)

    For me, however, I didn't buy any new equipment but used the stuff already in my house so for me, in effect, I paid $0 for my setup. haha..

    Which is a great deal! haha..

    A thing that really scares me is that you are using a Computer power supply near an aquuarium. These things are not designed to be anywhere near water, they are covered in vents for cooling so imagine what would happen if someone puts one too close and it gets splashed.

    Extreme care should be taken as water and electricity do not mix, so I feel that this should only be done by people who have a very good understanding of good electrical practices. To jump into this without thought could be very dangerous indeed.

    Just one thing, unless you like topping up water every day, this isn't the route that you might want to take.

    The more fans you have, the more water you have to top up. However the more fans you have does not mean that the temperature will go down much more. At most it will cool down the tank 2 degrees from the ambient.

    Using one diy 12cm fan for my 3ft tank cooling to 26 degrees. Topping up water every 2 days, rather annoying actually! About to give up.

    psu cables too short and messy

    One other point I'd like to mention, computer PSU's do have a tendancy to go bang when they die, they sometimes shoot out sparks when this happens.

    If you still want to use one I'd suggest that you lenghten the 12 volt wires not the 240v, this will enable you to keep it away from the aquarium and away from combustable materials.
