    yea...

u look at their pipes and tubings....then you look at your own

look at their glass accessories...then you look at your own again.

hell man... you look at their jet filter and co2 tower... then you look at your own canister and co2 cylinder.....

shucks........ no wonder amano always usings the garden stand for his tanks.

if i had filter and co2 tower that looks like that, i wouldnt mind putting it outside for viewing instead of hide in a cabinet.

n recently some of us were thinking that they UP co2 cylinder was quite nice looking.
well compared to ada co2 tower.................

but then again the beauty of its stuffs is one big reason why its able to charge premium prices.
    quality is another.

Anyway, I must admit I am one of those that always go for cheaper alternatives.
I been to fishing trip with RICO2 few months back. The moment we board the boat, those thousand dollars reels start flashing out one by one.... and some anglers was even laughing at my gears.... I am one of those that rather bring along 3 cheaper rods than 1 good rods.... but I caught the most fish (table size and above) in the end.... as those rich brats are vomitting all over and trying to sleep in the bunk... muahahahahaaaaaa

    Get my point?

However, I do see that I might buy a ADA tank (probably the smallest) as they really looks cool.

haha yea u make alot of sense
but to me there lies the difference between fishing and keeping fsh

fishing the main point (to me anyway) is to catch fish, the more the merrier
so who cares what rod you use as long as you can catch the fish
if you can catch with just line and hook dun need rod then can jolly well do that

fishkeeping to me is a form of visual enjoyment, the tank contents itself plus whats around it is the important part
thats why people drool over ada stuffs cos of the aesthetics
it makes the setup look nice --> which is what the hobby is all about... having a nice setup for visual enjoyment and relaxation!
that its products' quality is good is an added bonus

we are probably overpaying for it anyway... but what to do?
if you want it you gotta pay for it.
i wouldnt mind if theres similar looking products but brandless
they would cost much less and look as good... why not?

cos i never have really understood whats so different between its equipments and other brands. essentially they work the same way based on the same theories. a canister filter is a canister filter. whats so different about ada's es jet filter and the eheims everyone is using? basically no difference as far as im concerned. but the cost difference is so huge
its just for the aesthetics we are paying extra for. and the name ADA of course. though it doesnt matter to me

but apart from ada which other brands have such a good looking range?
not that im very aware of. so thats why...

hope for competition for ada. then everyone will have more and cheaper choices for aesthetic enjoyment

Hahaha... So if some China/Taiwan brand comes up with the same design for half the price, will you buy it? Or still ADA?

of cos buy the half price one!
    especially for accesories!

    let me give an eg.
you got ada lily pipes and bubble counters and glass joints etc that cost a bomb

then you got similar looking lily pipes bubble counters, diffusors etc etc from taiwan for half the price
of cos buy the cheap one!
whats the difference? i dun see much to justify the price premium

many guys are using taiwanese filters alright
regulators as well. tho i must say i prefer german/european regulators
somehow they give me a more reassuring feeling haha

my take is this. i mean that if theres similar specs and similar design
then the brand name doesnt matter right?
unless of cos its well known that the taiwan/china brand in question is of low quality
if not, then i dun see how its justifies the price premium.
to me alot of it is based on the brand name and aesthetic beauty

personally for me, what draws me to ada is mostly based on its aesthetics.
currently im using ZERO ada products on my 2mth old 1.5ft setup and everythings doing just fine
plants growing and bubbling, water is crystal clear, no noticeable algae i can see, fishes and shrimps zero deaths (apart from one harlequin that "jumped")
so results wise other brands are doing well for me.
ada's aesthetics are the main draw for me.
they might produce even better results than what i have done and probably will.
but im happy with what ive seen from other stuffs im using results-wise
and since im not a perfectionist by any means, the additional aesthetics of ada will do just nicely for me... results of them i dunno haha
but of cos im not totally willing to pay an arm and leg for that
hehe but in this hobby you'll never know when you cannot resist the lure of the dark side and just whip out the wallet =p

my point is simply aesthetics... full stop
cos i don;'t believe that other brands cant produce results to match.

Ironically, my current marketing course requires me to do an assignment on branding and brand recall. After some research and interviews, I found that price is not always the deciding factor, though it seems pretty common in Singapore and region. I had seen friends buying expensive towels as if the cheaper ones will scratch their delicate skin, buying latest MAC machine for photo editing and realised no "friendly" adobe photoshop available then later ask me help them sell it again, buying expensive car wax and they had never and don't even know how to wax their cars(normally driving in JB for cleaning), expensive watches but complains too heavy to wear them, expensive this and that... etc etc... not forgetting my friends whom own Japanese Kois that cost more than few thousands per piece in the pond that can only be view from the top.... Got some KL friends that bought few LV bags but were never used due to the fear of the notorious motor bike snatch thieves.

Many a times, human just wanna spend monies to release their stress.... . The job of marketing is to give them a better reason.

    Well done ADA...
    Cheers and Regards,
    Billy Cheong

Of course everyone love pretty product (including me). But come to the point that I have a lot $$ (don't know where to spend) than I will get all the ADA product.

Again if you have all the ADA product but with lousy scaping and never take care of the plants. End up still a lousy tank when look from far, nobody will stop and take a closer look and notice "ADA" brand there.

Of course if you too rich than can hire people to take care and know nothing about CO2 or etc .... and it just "Feng Shui" or as part of interior design.

But if local distributer can workout something with local bank for the credit card installment plan than poor people (like me) also can "dream come true", cause standard amount to qualify for installment is SGD $500 i guess and ADA tank can easily hit it.

Than improve economy , than lot of people with ADA tank at home , than no much "wow" feeling to own ADA product , than less business for local tank maker , than lot of people give up hobby after a while and more post in the forum to sale off ADA products , than slape the price for new ADA products in Singapore (cause 2nd market demand always good due to ADA long warranty and good quality) , than distributor lost contract with ADA due to poor marketing , than Amano will blacklist "Singapore" , than we are waiting for another exciting brand maybe .... forever than...

    Hi Hii,
I think with the new distributor, you can expect more innovative marketing, installment plans with credit cards is not that difficult to materilise so let's keep our fingers cross.
Something about the water & the fishes that calms me down.
