Can anyone suggest for good economical filteration for oscar. Im not going to invest canister filter like stuffs. But I want to keep my water clear. I can go to the extent of using internal submersible filter. I have 3feet 1 and half feet height/width tank.

hi bud, could you tell us how big your oscar is, then it will give us a better idea.
the tank you have for it or them is not really big enough, ive seen them at 14 inches long, and the amount of food they eat just using internals, i don't think they will cope with the waste.

so it's only a baby, i'd just keep the UG going with a powerhead for now, but as it starts eating meatier things i'd upgrade your tank-size and use a sump tank if you have enough space to do it.

as you probably know they are dirty buggers so if i was you i'd syphon the gravel daily to keep the tank clean.
good luck with your oscar, bud.

btw your fish will be 6inches before you know it. haha

    hi
I have 2 red devil oscars at approximatley 13cm I use a submersible jeboa brand pump for one and a toto submersible for the other they are both in 3foot tanks and are growing nicely the filters are 1500ltr/ph and do an excelent job and we have a small betta tank type cartridge filter in each aswell for the carbon ect.We have a large layer of substrate approx 8cm deep to give them plenty of stuff to move lol.
The only drawback with internal filterage is the need to put your hand in the tank to clean the darn thing. This has definitley become the oscars favourite hobby to attack the hand cleaning the filter (hubby and I toss coin to see who has to do it have not lost yet)
Although our tank is crystal clear we intend to change filtration to canister type before the lose of digits occurs Allthough oscars are "messy eaters" if you dont overfeed they do tend to eat everything and we have little waste problems.
