Melafix is fine with bettas.
You can also try kepatang leaves with some aquarium salt.
Have an urgent problem.
I purchased finally a red male fighting fish from a new LFS. I have him home in a new tank (properly cycled ) I have now noticed in strong light that my much awaited fishie has some medium damage. Missing scales etc. I think he has been in a fight or possible damaged in transport quarrantine.
He now shows slight signs of a possible secondary bacteria infection, white cotton substance steming from damaged parts. Is it safe to treat fighters with melafin the tea tree derivtive for this kind of problem. I have recently treated dwarf gouramis with this with great success but not sure if I can use it on fighters.
Hope someone can help as I have waited 3 months for this particular fish in this colour and would be seriously tragadised if I lost him![]()

Hi Kalindab,
The tree extract will help but salt is a definite winner here.
Kepatang leaves = Indian almond leaves which I believe is the same as your tree extract. Bettas are hardy fellas, don't worry.![]()
Something about the water & the fishes that calms me down.

My last fish that had the cottony stuff, died. (No treatment)
All previous bettas with that problem survived though. (No treatment either)
Almond leaves readily available on our beaches..
thank you all for your help. He died I guess it was all just to much moving him from dealers and the infection he lost the battle. No I spose I lost the battle bbut thankyou all
