May I know what is the full name of H.C?

Or do I just go into the shop and tell the uncle "I want to buy H.C"

Heyhey.... sorry for the late reply...

    To Jeanxavier:

Ah,., HC.. means, Hemianthus callitrichoides ''Cuba''.

    To Corleone:

My watts of light is.... ermm.. i don't know.. intially, it was 18watts, i think. then, it was too strong.. i used tracing paper to block off the strong lighting.. now, everything is fine..

    To aqua2525:

about how to grow them, i really don't know. What i know is that, the trick of growing plants, you must have a cool water temperature. With the latter, your plants will grow. I learnt from the people from this forum.
Cool water temperature is the cornerstone of success
Well, there are other secondary factors too...

Well, for H.C, i just buy it from Clementi fish shop and it was a pain in the ***. it was my first time you see.. so, i just anyhow attached them to a new stone. Never did i know that the soil kept on coming out !!!! Initially, the whole tank was covered by the sand, the roots of H.C turned brown, the leaves seem to be dying. I was so sad. but the next day i woke up, they rejuvinated

    Alvin.... =)

These H.C. looks cute! Can they be planted into the base, instead of tying onto rock/wood? Read somewhere in forum that it tends to melt (aka die *touch wood*)... a very difficult plant to keep. Do keep posting on how the plants are doing ... about a few weeks down the road? heh heh... learn from you before starting my shrimp tank.

talking about that, if you got extra shrimps, can i chop chop some too? Thank you in advance!

Noticed the HC does not attach to the rock. In no time, all will come loose.

C328 knew nothing about what is inside the HC cement block. Me too, almost con into believing what they said. Removed the cement block and realized full pile of mud , then wash the mud away.

Now many bushes of HC in my tank.

Just to share some of my HC.

Hmmm... neon, so, how do i keep HC? practically, it is supposed to be attached to rocks or soil?

    jacquetlc

Now, HC in my tank are still healthy and doing very well. Just that, one of them kinda dying away.. not sure about it.
This is my experiment with HC. I will change to Moss soon.
    Maybe next month.

About the shrimps,i really don't know how to give you all.
It's really a lot.. and now, my water condition is cloudy... is recovering though..

I hope i can transfer the shrimps, pack them and give people whom are interested. I'll see how. Now, my tank is in a mess.....

hi neon, just to clarify, when we buy HC, it comes attached to cement block filled up with mud? So after purchase, what must we do before we introduce into tank? Also, can we further split up the purchase into smaller bushes and distribute around the tank?

hi scotworm, the water clears up by itself? Anything introduced into your setup to clear up water? Glad that your HCs are still doing fine.

Gee, lots to learn!!! *pulls hair*

    jacquetlc :

Hello my friend... i didn't add anything to clear the water.. i only added another filter to clear the cloudy water. AFter 1-2 days, i found mud flooded my filter sheet. I knew something then. Yea...

now, my HC are beginning to flood up!! those 'soil/mud' attached to them initially was gone and now, it poses a problem.

I've posted another question on site. I hope you would help me.. or anyone..

HC bought at stores are normally farmed in a emerse state. Which means that they are grown above water, on wet soil/ mud. They are grown this way bcos it is cheaper - no need for CO2 injection, or special soils or ferts. Plus, they grow faster above water then under water.

Some hobbyists grow them above water until they have enough of the HC to cover their aquarius foreground before putting them into there planted tanks. However, the leaves will rot away at the 1st stage to get rid of its emerse leave to make room for submerged leaves. Thus it is common to see the HC 'melt' at initial planting stages in the tank. New leave will grow or as quoted from Alvin, 'rejuvenate'.

Please correct me if I am wrong. I am new to them too. Heh

wow... i see light as well... learnt a new trick to harvest HC planted on soil then submersed them into water for foreground plant. Never know plants can shed off leaves to allow growth of submersed leaves... V. interesting!
