Ruby tetras are characins, not cyprinids. Scientific name is Axelrodia riesei.
Hi folks,
Anyone keeping rubies? Care to share your experiences? Thanks!
Thinking of getting a group for my 2ft tank..![]()

done.. and Anyway.. i used to keep some.. very very nice for the smaller thank i find.. but if you give them alot of foilage.. they tend to hide inside until its feeding time.. i feel they would be better fish if you have scapes that are more open..
still have those fishes
they school loosely, but are really nice fishes... some of mine tend to hide till feeding time... some are ok... excellent for small tanks
Cheers,
Joe
mine is a 2footer...still in initial stage so the plants has not fully grown yet..... is there any other nice sch of small fish to recommend? *fish that does not threaten fries of apistos* hehe

How big can this fish grow to?
Actually, there might be a chance for your fries to survive if your foliage is really hugh... You seen before GreenChapter's main show tank? There is a breeding pair of A. eunotus (if I am not wrong), and mum and fries are all happily hiding away in the foilage...Originally Posted by Cacatuoides

About 2cm or so. This is based on my own rubies that are still alive in my 3footer. They are quite small so to speak, but easy to keep.Originally Posted by whoosh

Yep...I witnessed it myself...maybe my crs too small or what. Guess I will try cherry shrimps instead...![]()
Tetras with shrimps are a big no-no. If the tetras are hungry, baby shrimps will become food for them.
