Hi Chermin,

I do agree with you, I know of ladies who are into aquatic hobby and at times they are even more creative than the guys!! Aquatic hobby is not only exclusive to any gender....it is all about learning and sharing of information and knowledge irregardless of gender!!

So guys, if you couls watch your words, it would help a lot in maintaining the integrity and the intended purpose of AQ....

Yes, there's 1 lady member here and is disappointed at the sexist remarks. Ladies don't just play with barbie dolls or shop for shoes & bags, some do all these and keep fishes too. I have a 2ft tank that I keep killer fish, whereas my boyfriend gasping gurami is a fish killer. I keep predatory fishes and he keeps wimpy fishes called boraras. He's better at plants though, most turn furry after some time......

Welcome to AQ. I noticed you've been an AQ member for a little over 2 months (opps) a year now. I hope that you have noticed that sexist remarks in AQ are the exception and not the norm. And as you can see in this thread, other then the moderators, many of the ordinary members stand up for the ladies here.

Be assured the moderators monitor the forum closely and will take action against any inappropriate behaviour. The ordinary members too, do their part, by alerting the moderators of inappropriate posts.

Some of the comments in here are definitely inappropriate and we are dealing with them behind the scenes.

There are other lady members on AQ too. Sometimes their gender are not obvious from their user names. At our last outing, at least 2 of them joined us. Some of the guy members brought along their wives and girlfriends too.

With the storm we used to create? Joking... we're good AQ-citizens here.

Erm... there's still at least one tank in every corner and water-change takes upto 4hours every Saturday morning. Other than that, it's just daily feedings and monthly visits to C328 for the supplies.

Work has been eating up the bulk of my brains these days.

Maybe can try my method.My wife and me agree to consult (actually inform only ) each other when we buy anything more than $100. Anyway, I do not control what she buys but advice on them so I expect she treats me the same way. Wife grumbling is a way of life so take it with a pinch of salt. BTW, my wife complains about my tanks but sometimes you can see her helping me out (feeding the fishes or trying to catch a baby guppy from my tank) and seems to enjoy it.

Else you can talk to your wife with some agreement before going to the LFS (eg time there, not to spend $1000 at a time, stuff like that) before going out with her to the LFS.

oops, back to topic. Glad to know there are at least 3 female hobbyist out here. I do agree with you Coryfav ... to have something dedicated to your other half (be it the whole tank, or just a fish) would certainly help raise her interest a notch. Its very simple actually ... always have her in your heart, yes, even in this hobby. She will just love this soft touch.

Actually, given that AQ has been around for about 4 years... I think the number of lady members only increased significantly (comparatively) in the last 1 or so years. LeAnne and Coryfav are from the early days.

AQ is only 4 years old??!!!, I never realised it was so young, still a baby

For what it's worth, South Africa does not have many female aquarists either

the UK fairs a little better with lady fishkeepers,
i know quite a few of them and believe me they are bloody good as well.
a few years ago before she cut her tanks down due to ill health, jane bell would have put any dwarf cichlid breeder to shame with what she could breed and the quality of her stock, her husband is a killi fish keeper and breeder.

I'm still around lah... I stopped meddling my tanks for a while since I sprained my back carrying buckets of water to refill my 3footer.

More into biking now...more injuries from biking than fishkeeping :P

I'll rescape my tanks in Dec after exams...
