First time in my life that I had to turn on my car's headlight at 9am on last Saturday misty & hazy morning while driving on the country road from Kuching to Lundu. The low visibility was caused by the thick haze & mist. At 10am, I could look at the sun directly using my naked eyes!!!

What's going on? Well, the haze is caused by the "annual" open burning season during the dry season in Borneo. Even though open burning is prohibited in Malaysia & Indonesia, farmers do not care / not informed at all about the law and continue to clear the farm land/ forest using the slash & burn technique.

Few days ago, the Air Pollution Index (API) in Kuching area had reached more than 150 which is considered as unhealthy level.

Humans are continuing destroying our mother earth & most of their activities are contributing the global warming. Our world is getting polluted & warmer.....I'm not sure what will be happening in the future. Probably more natural disasters?

Casting the net. At this spot, we caught Oxygaster anomalura & Rasbora tornieri.

How to catch fast swimming Rasbora in this big river? First, place your net at the river bed, placing some baits on the net. When the fish smells something nice, they will come to the net & then quickly pull up the net.

    Oxygaster anomalura

Release back Oxygaster anomalura to the river.

why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

    Hey Michael!!!

As usual, you are our window to this wonderful wilderness. Us urban folks have virtually no such opportunities here within Singapore.

Pity about the hazy situation though. We do get a few hazy days recently, but I suppose it must be a lot worst there.

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

    Hi Benny, how r u?

Its getting better now, thanx to the heavy rainfall few days ago.... It seem that there is no solution to this problem because it's very hard to ask the farmers to clear the land without using the fire. It became their culture....& when human population is incresing & more land will be used for agriculture, the haze problem will getting worst in the future.
