    Hi guys,

Think many of us are very interested in the extensive pictures put up by apistoworldhk....

Just opened up this thread for more discussion as in getting the fishes fly into our local scene?

Appreciate if apistoworldhk can come in and share his views?

    Eman,

I think you can always send him a mail or call him to find out more. They have applied to be listed as a Merchant in AQ. We are still sorting out the details.

I also think a few of us have already been to his shop in Hong Kong. Quite a nice place and plenty of fishes. However, do take note that accidents do happen and sometimes, fishes are dead on arrival (DOA). Then you end up having to pay for the dead fish and the freight, and yet, have nothing to show for.

I do agree that in Hong Kong, there is quality and quantity. But be prepared to pay a premium too. The reason why the local scene is quiet is because hobbyist are not willing to pay for quality fishes. Hence, these fishes ended up in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan instead. Most shops have difficult keeping stocks of such expensive fishes for an extended period of time, fearing they end up dead if not cared for properly. Besides, they need to clear the tanks to make a living. Having racks and racks of beautiful dwarf cichlids with no money coming in is not good business sense either.

Hopefully, the dwarf cichlid scene in Singapore will warm up in the near future. You guys can make a difference, albeit small steps at a time. Fishes are always available to hobbyists who are willing to make a contribution back to the community. You just need to know who to talk to.

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

Agree with you benny, I do believe in paying a premium for quality fishes....its old saying "You pay for what you get"....

Good to hear that they've applied to be listed as a merchant in AQ!!!

I was wondering if some bros here would like to share and fly in some of the fishes from them?

*I've experienced DOA when I ordered fishes from US too!!*
Think its a matter of luck?

If you are really interested to get fish from them. Talk to them and I may be able to arrange for courier for you FOC. I might have a HK trip next week. So far fishes are 99% alive and in good condition on arrival.

Stephen Think you should check with the airline if you are gonna hand carry back especially nowadays with some restriction of carrying liquid on board.

Yup I agree too....Benny, you'll probably do a check if you can hand carry liquid in on your particular airline, if not the fishes will be stuck or transfer to the cargo section

You guys are right.. with the latest limitation on board aircraft all those discussions we had on AQ about hand-carrying fish may not be applicable anymore.
However I believe on most passenger planes there are both compressed cargo space and non-compressed one.
(short of a suitable word, I use 'compressed' here to denote space with compressed air.)

When I travel back from Bangkok with fish last time I was asked to check-in the bags of fishes and the airline crew kept to their promise of putting my bags of fishes in the compressed cargo space. The crew put the bags into a bigger bag and mark the bigger bag as live-stock. When I reached Changi airport, the bags of fishes, placed in a blue plastic tray, were already rotating on the belts awaiting my pickup.

Maybe the next best way to get the apistos is to get the people there, pack them into proper boxes and mail it over?

this is how fish is sent from US...

I don't use conventional methods of hiding fishes in my hand carry lugguage. No point and too much hassle. Mine's pretty much commercial shipping arrangements. Hence, I don't deal with the usual problems at the airport. However, different markets have differing arrangements.

    Hi all

I am also looking to buy some apistos from apistoworld. I have contacted him and he told me shipping costs is about HKD500 = S$100.

Anyone wants to share? If Benny is going and don't mind helping out, that will be great.

Another thing, I only want male fishes. Thus if someone is buy a pair of the same, there's a chance i will give the female up either FOC or minimum sum.

    Please let me know...

    Jeff
