    hi bro flashout..

    my apple snails finally hatched..
saw a few small tiny minute snails crawling around..

btw, how long do they need to grow till sexually matured size? And any special care needed for them at this stage?

Still got a few clusters unhatched left on the wall..

Hi freshman, the grow of apple snail depend on your decision. If you want them to grow fast, feed them more and keep the temperature high as 29C. And also the water clean, change them weekly.

When they were small, I put in plant, even riccia, as for food.....hehehhe, damn lucky snail huh.

For the shell to look nice, put in liquid calcium once a while.

Because mine have too much in the tank, now i feed them less and keep the temperature low, so they will not grow fast and produce again... Happy keep them. Its nice to open light at night and see them crawling around.

Bro freshman, no need. Its ok to keep all of them together. They are vegetarian... will not eat their young.

But you need to becareful with few thing :-
    1. Your filter. Because the babies is very small, its easily being suck into the filter, any type, you just need to put sponge on the head.
    2. Fish, same fish, even neon tetra will pick on the babies snail. Previously I saw some of my neon pick on them, so I quickly separete them.

What happend? Very low in survival rate....

During my first breed, I also having alot of problem such as changing water, filter system, food and predator. My avearge survival rate is around 40% - 60%.

I read from somewhere, some say apple snail cannot cross breed, some say they did cross breed. So, I would like to give it a try.

I like the brown apple snail because they have lines over in their shell. I was hoping to cross breed where some of the baby could have the golden yellow color with brown lines...hehehehe... that would be nice then.

At the moment, nothing happend yet. Got keep on trying then.

I hope your babies snail will grown bigger soon. If you camera, share with us your snail.

here a picture of newly harvested apple snails..

I think in order for them to survive.. must transfer them to a smaller tank so that they can find food easier..

Mmmm...there are alot of type for apple snail around the world. So far I seen over in Malaysia is just brown apple snail and golden apple snail.

You got those blue stripe one ah? I seen other country such as US and Europe they have variety color of apple snail such as blue, stripe, black (not brown), and etc....being asking them if they can export to Malaysia or not...but seem like cannot.

So I m still searching around for more apple snail to my collection. I think over in Sg have more variety.

Killie, its all depends. For me, I m trying to keep all my cost down, thats why I have alot of DIY in my planted tank from my CO2, lighting and just use holland sand, no those expensive or branded stuff.

And for my snail tanks, I have DIY filtering system and lighting. For their foods, I am still doing S&D (research and development)..(wow...such a deep words...hehehe) for the cheapest food. At the moment, I have a tank, size of 2 feets, where i grow those easy and fast growing plant for them to eat.

I place it at the windows, no lighting, no CO2 and no filtering. Well it was working fine... but still unable to feed-up my 143 apple snail (last count). For the extra, I am feeding them alga wafer (its bit expensive), trying out turtle pellet, and fresh cheap vege from the market. My feeding cost for my apple snail is around RM 15.00 monthly.

Once the apple in full grown, you can feed them once every 3 - 5 days. They can last without food up till weeks or more! But its not good lah.
