Was at colourful aquarium and Yap was having this really nice looking cardinals floating in bags. These cardinals did not even turn pale when they are in the bag unlike the common cardinals when spooked. Very bright neon red as compared to the normal cardinals.
The difference i see in this "new" cardinal is that it has a more storky and shorter body as compared to the common cardinals. The eyes also looked smaller then the common cardinals. According to Yap, he said they are from another country. Doesn't all cardinals come from the amazon river? Are these hybrids, farm breed?

The Happiest of people don't neccessary have the best of everything;
they just make the most of everything that comes along their way
When will there be 25 letters in the alphabets?
Perhaps the answers that you are looking for are here. Accordingly, the Rio Negro and Rio Orinoco populations are quite different.
Very interesting...never knew that...

If you've learnt, teach, if you have, give.
Don't walk behind me as I might not lead, don't walk in front of me as I might not follow. Walk beside me, as my friend.
Mohamad Rohaizal is my name. If it's too hard, use BFG. I don't mind.
I was there too but didn't see it leh, only saw the CRS in plastic bags and nearly fainted when went over to NA who sold the CRS at $60 per piece![]()
It's not just "Step1: Add Water, Step2: Add Fish" If everything else don't work, add plastic plants and fish
No more of them today when I went there.

More expensive then the common cardinals, above a dollar. Oh, he has the red striped shrimps as well. Only 5 pieces i think and was floating in a bag. Did not bother asking the price because I am not a shrimp guy...Bet its expensive...Originally Posted by BFG

Saw it around 1:30pm in the big bag. Selling $1.20 a piece, big , fat, shorter than those we normally see in Singapore. If compare, it should be consider as XL IMO.
Somehow, they don't really look neon bright, eventhough the bottom red is fully shown, may be the top neon blue color is still under stress.
Here's the comparison. Circled is the 'common' one...

it seems like the new one has the red all the way to the belly?

I think there is no difference. Except that because of the broader body, the red seems more then the common ones.
