My fiancee wants to have a star tortoise as a pet, however I'm thinking that it is illegal to keep them as pets?

Is this true or a misconception from me?

    Yes. It's illegal.

AVA's website has details on it. Check the Vivarium sub forum for the link.

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

Yes indeed. The only reptile that is approved to be sold as a pet in Singapore is the red-eared terrapin

AVA is thinking of banning the sale of that too... But I think it is difficult... Kids need a kind of reptile to be seen as a pet...

Ok, serious... No star tortoises... or ANY reptiles for that matter...

Make the malayan box the only available reptile and ban the capture of it. That way the farms will be forced to breed them and they'll be off the endangered species list!

Can keep... It is the way people deal with them after you are tired with the tortoise... They think that any pond out them is good for them... Sigh...

Hearsay that the malayan box will be legalised to keep soon.
