The idea was to create a flooded Amazon look for a pleco comm tank. It's a 7' with a 4' sump tank. The over and underflow also dictated that it be bare bottomed which helps with keeping the water pristine. The DW are all 2' tall and are pushed to the back to maximize 'floorspace' infront. That's where all the action is during feeding time.

Tankmates includes tetras, earth eaters and heckels. Couldn't find an anoconda to complete the feel

    I have a albino adonis, L350, L96, 4 or 5 pcs of L25, L273, L320, L24, L160 x 3, couple of BNs and whiptails for area cleaning. Biggest is a 16" TL L25.

Found a pic with the warm light on, can see some of the inhabitants:

More nanas and java ferns on the top near the surface, to give that extra jungle feel. I agree with squee, a substrate would be nice, i think those brown bio gravels are cheap and nice to complement your DW and warm light. I think this tank has potential for a vary nice low maintenance.

Good luck to you if you ever try to net some naughty fishes out of your tank.
It's not just "Step1: Add Water, Step2: Add Fish" If everything else don't work, add plastic plants and fish

Agree that substrate is nice (I use gravel for my other 5'), but I don't want to deal with modifying the underflow which is built in. Will add more nanas and ferns, the nana in the pic was knocked down. Filling up the top with plants would be nice...

For catching the spiny monsters from the tank, I have a plastic bath tub with holes...minimize damage to fish, stress and injuries to owner....

A big pleco (especially a panaque) has the output of 9 aros or 2 pairs of rays

Actually bio-gravel are design to provide good filtration and bacteria homes. I doubt it will greatly affect your under gravel filtration since it also does not break down fast.

Correct. However, the 7' has a underflow and overflow box built in, there are slits that allow debris, poos, etc to be swept in and channel by pipes into the sump tank below. So tank design, coupled with the bio-load, and personal preference, I go with bare bottomed.

Here's the 5' with bio gravel (used where I feel appropriate). I am really more of a 'wood' person, so please pardon my lack of 'aquascapping' per se.

    Hi,
    those are beautiful wood scapes.
would the tanning, which I think is what I see, block out light which is vital for plant growth?
otherwise, would the plants look good in that coloured water?
but plants aside, I think whiptails are an excellent choice, but to complete it, I think altums (or at the very least wild discus) with good striping would really make a unbeatable biotope tank
    thanks

Some of the DW is still leaking tannin but it's actually calming for the plecs, so a little colored is good...nanas placed right on top would get lights and also they are pretty hardy.

Agreed, I am really going only for fish from the same biotope from the plecs to the eartheaters to these heckels and I am on the look out for some majestic adult altums (last missing piece to complete the tank).

Those are really beautiful driftwood. May I know where you bought them? I'm planning to create similar wood scape for my red turqoise discus once I upgrade to a 5 feet tank next year.

I bought all except the biggest pc on the left, from Fish Haven. Not sure whether there will be any left by next year the rate plecs keepers are buying them up. Teo's farm would always carry some DW....

Hopefully your discus are settled, the way my heckels go turbocharged around the DW when first introduced into the tank, the scratches on the body was scary, never imagined a discus could swim so erratically so fast
