Where to buy fish supplies in Hong Kong
Hi!
Just came back from "Goldfish street" in Kowloon. There is almost 100 shops selling everything that an aquarist can possibily want. The actual name is Tung Choi Street, just off Mong Kong MTR station, north of Ladies Market.
It's a fairly short street with 3 segments and shops on both sides with a "Sim Lim Square" kind of feel. But being new to the hobby, I really have no idea what I'm look at. They must have thousands of items in every shop. Lots of hardware too, Eheim/ADA look alike stuff and lots of brands (probably from China/Taiwan) that I have never seen before. Too bad I don't speak much Cantonese either. Lots of nice plants here too and the variety of fishes is quite mind boggling too. There is this flat catfish that looks like a leech. 200 baby Neon Tetra cost HK$28 (about S$6.50).
Since I haven't set up my aquarium, don't really know what's a bargin to pick up. But the information may be useful for anyone who's going to Hong Kong. By the way, the ADA CO2 System 74 spare Canister sells for HK$110 (about S$25) each and the shopkeeper says a lot of Singaporean shop here too. I bought the book of ADA (2002 catalogue) from him.
One important thing to note: a lot of shops here do not take credit cards.
I think I'll go back there on Thursday to spend the evening there. Most of the shops close at 9pm.
Regards,
Benny
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?
