i had them removed, used to have them munching on my mosses too.
now have cherry shrimps and crystal red shrimps as replacement though not as effective as yamatoes in clearing algae.![]()

The Happiest of people don't neccessary have the best of everything;
they just make the most of everything that comes along their way
When will there be 25 letters in the alphabets?
ok thanks...i just bought the shrimps though D:
never mix yamatoes with mosses from my past experiences. Take them out, but don't throw them away, either sell or exchange them for cherries?
the cherries eat moss too.
in fact mine likes eating my moss more than hikari algae wafers
they ignore the wafers i drop in and carry on munch my moss while the poor wafer is left unbothered like 2cm away
the fish probably nibble away more of the wafer than the cherries
sad......
Are you sure cherries eat moss? I have cherries in a shrimp only tank that is full of moss. They do seem to munch on the mosses but they are not actually eating them like what a yamato would do.
As for Yamato eating moss, yup, that's a known problem. I find them eating less of my moss if I drop some food for them occasionally.
If the growth of the moss is good. You shouldn't have problem with shrimps eating all the moss. They can use some trimming anyway
Unless you have only a small amount of moss and an army of shrimps......![]()
i don't see my cherries muching my moss either. Have a full carpet of spiky moss in my tank, i only see them munching the algae on my moss. Whenever i throw in algae wafers or crab wafers, they just munch on that
i observed them at work.
they ARE really munching my moss
and after they leave the recently munched area, you can see the moss left abit botak
the main central "stem" still there...the side "leaves" all gone or left very thin wispy strands
though mozesyap you are right in that they help keep the moss in check
it already grows too well... so i dun mind them eating it
just kinda disapointed that my grand dropping of the heavenely algae wafe attracted nobody =p
