Let us not forget the cost of it too. I got a silly question that I have to ask, any shrimps?

In such a big tank, maybe shrimps will be able to survive.
I love the tank... superb...
I thought we cannot put angelfish and discus together... not that they will fight, but rather the angelfish has something in it (either shit or body,,bla bla bla...i was told a worm..) that is not good for discus. any comments on that Tom or anyone?

That's vice versa. Bugs that each are resistant to are deadly to the other.
They have to be quarantined and I'm sure the owners had done that. Treating a tank that large is unthinkable!

There's nothing to fear there, the fish ability of the owner is quite good.
It's the plants he's learning more about.
But I think if you like over the top tanks with plants, it's only fair to use that same appeal and zest with the fish as well as the plants, rather than placing one above the other, rather, have them both be over the top.
I have some neat new wood to add some structure and balance to the tank(it's lacking a lot on one side to me) as well as some nice rock for define the mid ground.
That and some trimming and moving some groups around a bit will help the scape a lot lot more!!
I do not like the tank personally yet.
I'd have a high fish load like my other tanks, but not so many species, rather and more cohesive community, but close to the same no# of fish.

Tom Barr
Oh Tom, how do you help to cope with such a high fish bio-load ??

Pure O2 injection....

Plant Physiology by Taiz and Zeiger

Actually we have not yet added that.
No need.
But it's there in case and I'm going to nag the owner and show him how to set up the O2 controller.
Good news though, I'm doing the LA zoo for sure now, a 5x6x20 ft tank, 4500 gal and a 20x8x8ft 10,000 gal tank for piranha. Spoke with the director and the client for this tank is a trustee, so hopefully late fall this coming year, might be a little while longer. We will go to ther Amazon and film the process and collecting of plants/fish etc for this display also.
Not bad?

Oh there's more:
Well, I thought I was walking into disaster, but it was not that bad of shape this time down.
I found out if you fill the tank 1/2 way and float in the tank, it makes replanting very easy. Trying hang or balance on sharp rocks with hands or feet hurts
Fish bit my toes.
These Altums...........well they have to be the biggest pigs in the tank, I fed them daily for 3 days and they always came to the front of the tank begging like the worst of dogs.........
He has not added all 64. 18 of the largest fattest ones have been added and have done well. I saw these when they where under 1", they are 5" long now.
Some guy in Germany sold the client these discus which are huge.
I did a total rework this time, spent about 30 hours of reworking labor.
I re[planted most of the front 2/3 of the tank except for the hair grass lawn, I added a large piece of Anubiasized wood to balance the sides, I could have added another log on the other side but filling in the blank space on the left removed that need.
I added 500lbs of ADA like Siuyo(sp) rock, this makes a very nice contrast and divides the tank up into workable units.
I'm trying to get one of the friends there to have us do a tank for Jim Carry. He has marine tank, I figure he needs a Freshwater equilvalent.
LA Zoo exhibit is a go and in the planning stages. There will definitely be 2 large tanks in the Amazon display there I will get to work on. We are also going to Amazon to collect the fish with Heiko.
They will film the entire process. Should be cool.
Note, this is the tank before I fixed it, it'll take a few days before it's happy and the plants have filled in more. It was literally covered in algae when the CO2 was off for 7 days before being fixed.
We used Excel+daily 40% water change, blackout and virtually all plants where algae free after 6 days.

Ok..now thats massive..and i mean massive, and what? 300 apistos? Holy Bananas man..

i was starting to wonder what happened to this tank... good thing there are new updates !!! and as always WOW

wah this is a huge tank. must be real relaxing to sit in front of it. anyway i think i read this somewhere that discus and angelfish cannot be mixed. cause angelfish got an inherent virus which they r immue but is deadly to discus.

Actually it's vice versa. Discus diseases are deadly to Altums as well IME. More so in fact. You hardly ever see discus drop like flies but healthy Altums can succumb in two days.
IMO it's the luck of the batch[wild caught altums] you get really as quarantine will not do anything against viruses that the host are immune to. Unless of course you have a lab that can detect viruses and have the medication to target it.

Well, we ended up removing all 70 bags of ADA aqua soil![]()

Never could get good clarity, no matter what was done, we have 5000wUV, clarifiers, daily 50% water changes, fill and drain at opposite ends etc, 5 micron filtration on a massive scale etc.
Nothing worked, therefore we removed it all and added Eco complete, the effect was immediate.
and the full tank shot right after filling:

is the ADA aquasoil the main culprit ? man i was planning to have some shipped hehe
