Still a nice huge tank.... would be great to view in person.
I guess the maintenance part would be back breaking.

    Breathtaking !! Behemoth King !!
Hey Tom ,why dont you do a tank of this scale for yourself and put in there your own taste, your aquascaping skills and a nice selection of wild fish?
Congratulations 4 the project, I wish I was 1 of your clients !

This is why tanks should be judged by video
Larger tanks are in another class when it comes to scaping, far more challenging than some dinky little 6ft tank that's 20" deep, this tank is 48" deep, much longer than your arm.

I'm also not in charge of everything, it's a client's tank, and I get over ruled(they pay me, not the other way around). They wanted the open space and the walls covered with plants.

Still, the tank could use some work in the plant area that would fill things up nicer I think. But this is just a pic on any given day, not some photo shoot.

I had a nice piece of wood that balanced the other side well, but got over ruled. They wanted the space, they like the fish more than the "scape".

So yes, I agree on most points, wild discus etc would look better IMO as well, but it's not my tank.

Is the front panel made of glass? May I know the thickness? After looking at it for 3 days... I'm still struck by its scale and beauty

Anyone knows what is the maximum size of tank allowed in a HDB flat?

    Re: The behemoth tank

    Yes, Acrylic, 1.5 inches thick.

I also could not find enough species for larger groupings of plants for this scale
So I had to use several of each. You simply cannot find 200lbs of Java fern in good shape.

The other issue, the groups look small and out of place at the full tank shot since the tank is so large and you are so far away from the picture, remember, you are about 20ft or more from the tank here.

Your computer screen is not big enough for the detail or sharp enough really.
You can see some issues if you try and compare the ADA tank at Amano's home.
Back lit, species, over time the tank ha done a few incarnations etc, this has also, but it's growing in and becoming more and more well done over time.

Eventually, I'd say the tank is going to become really nice, but the client likes it and works good on it when he is around... but he travels often.
So the client's learning and getting better

Other clients do not want any involvement, just show it etc.
    That cost more

    Regards,
    Tom Barr

Without permit, 600kg. Even with permit, unlikely you'd get past 5-6 feet.

How you going to dose the ferts, autodose machine? It would be like pouring whole bottle of fruit juice into the tank each dose, unless rely on fish food feeding as part of the fert also, with so many faunas inside.

Btw whats the temperature inside this tank? Since there's discus there also.

He adds a 1/3 cup of KNO3 per day among other EI based ferts.........
No automatic machine is needed, he feeds the fish 2x a day, so it's not an issue. Light is much less than many think, we only use the MH's about 2 hours total per day, since there are 4, we start onem then another comes on 30 min later, sort of like a 4 hour total sunrise, sun set.

Most of the other 10 hours, just some PC's which are really low low light.

Most of the plants are low light also.

Fish food adds some, but not much.
There's a lot more plants in here than fish.

    Temp is 82-83F.

LA is earthquake prone, but the tank is 1.5" Acrylic which is much stonger than glass. The tank and stand are bolted to the floor, which is anchors into the granite rock below. We take good care not to scratch, but the scratchs can be polished out, unlike glass scratches.

Thanks so much for the information. Perhaps I should consider an acrylic tank for my next project. Never gotten a chance to experience them as they are not very popular here, kinda costly.

It looks like your client is really quite dedicated as he is actively maintaining the tank too.

The cost for Glass was 5X as much at this size.
Acrylic can be made off site, glass? Forget it, on site.
ADA had their's made off site, but it has a big metal rim around it and braces.

I'm doing a 450 Gal office tank for this same client using some very ancient gnarled manzanita wood that only someone who stomps around the Foothills where they are native (myself) at mountain tops. It's just fuel for forest fires but this stuff has so much more character than anything you ever see in aquariums using Manzanita.

They broke that tank 2X so far(the tank maker). It's 1" thick Starfire glass euro braced rimless. Fortunately.........they have a utility elevator and fork lift etc on site! So it's mostly just a scape job. The sediment will be the Black flourite, and I do not have to wash it either! He hired another guy to do that

    Ahaha..........
    I hate doing that.

It's 8ft long, 30" tall, and 36" front to back depth.
Nice size really. He wants a simple filtration, so we are doing 4 sets of Ehiem's largest filters and AM 1000 Reactors+UV's. Lighting is low, T8's because he likes the color of a certain bulbs that are only available here in T8. We will also use som special LED's and angel the lights so it hardly touches the glass sides.

So you get hardly any algae and the glass looks more transparent. Hard to explain, has to be seen in person.

    Tom Barr

Yes, he is, which is rare, and even more rare at this scale.
Now if I can just get those gaudy ugly discus out of there with somthing more appropriate. He tried some wild discus, but they did not fair well.
Altums did well, but he left for 4 weeks on a trip, and the guy caring for them was not very attentive. So that was a loss.

Well, you could try talking to him again saying how such a awesome tank will look even better with the fauna you have in mind.
