I like to give feedback that the black colour polyurethane tubing I have used for the last 3 years has started disintegrating. It started cracking at the joint near the bubble counter. It has also become a little sticky and having light white powdery stuff -- mouldy looking. All this in the office air-con room! When I tried to bend it, it also started to crack.

Look like the good old transparent silicon tubing still the best?

Anyone encountered this problem so far?

i think because its in air-con environment thats why.. its probably dried out and exposed to co2 all the time.. i would expect that.. even the transparent one will turn hard after sometime in those conditions.. right now i'm using the soft silicon type.. its quite okay..just that someitmes its a bit too soft..

But no such problem for those transparent silicon tubes so far at office. When I set up the CO2 tubing, I had a section of silicon tubing connected by a one-way valve to a separate section of polyurethane tubing. Only the polyurethane section got problem.

Maybe this case is an exception of poor quality batch? Can't believe it is made for industrial use if it can deteriorate like that.

Polyurethane is a generic term. There are multiple kinds and variations of PUR depending on the used isocyanate and alcohol combination and/or additives. Some of which react to UV (hardening or softening), to different solvents (dissolving), or even to water.

Mine just gave way too. About 3 years old. From Dennerle. Just bought a cheap replacement from JBJ.

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?
