peter, my advise would be that you might want to consider cycling your tank alittle longer before you start introducing cherries in. maybe in another 1 week or so.
Actually, I have previously used micro pellets too. Works fine.

I use hikari discus pellets for my shrimps and other inhabitants as well....works fine!
