    Hi to eveyone,

I've just set up a tank (4 x 1.5 x 1.5 ft) 3 days ago. I've taken some pictures but yet to upload them. I got some questions regarding the setup:

    1) What should be the correct pH level for my tank?
    2) How do i condition my tank? (e.g how i introduce bacteria and make my the water stable?)
    3) How long should I turn on my chiller (Resun 650L) and CO2 tank (how many bps?) and lights?
    4) I saw some threads of people adding soda power and other liquid substances. What are they for?

For pH its in relation to kH. To get optimum CO2 contents.
For conditioning, I think if you got good filtration system, it will take care of it. Chiller is on standby mode 24/7. It will kick in when temp. is above the set value. Other liquid could be fertilizers.

    1) No optimum pH level, just keep it around 6 to 7 degrees.
    2) Get a little bit of sand or plants or driftwood from another established tank and put it into your tank.
    3) Can't answer you about the chiller. Set it at 1bps and slowly increase day by day little by little until your plants are bubbling at night. However you need to ensure that your plants are getting adequate fertilisation too. Lights for 10 hours daily.
    4) Those deal with kH and fertilisation of planted tanks. Read the stickies for more info

I'm not referring to the brand of filter. What I meant was the bacteria colony in the canister, cause it takes time for bacteria to form in the filter medium. Good filtration system as in how long and mature it has been running. From what I know, the chiller is usually on 24/7 to maintain preset temp. Temp wise, all depends on the type of plants you're keeping. but on average maybe 26 degree. Bill wise not too sure cause parents are footing them. hehe.

From my limited knowledge, the chiller is on 24/7 monitoring the temperature. It will kick in when the temperature fluctuates, so it's not working all the time.

    Fans do well too.

Glosso requires high light to stay low.

Here is an old article written by Aeon (a past AQ member if I'm not wrong) on his website. I hope there aren't copyright issues because this is a good article; I started on glosso with it.

plant the individual whole stem buried in the gravel, preventing it from dislodging from the substrate.
plant them at intervals of a few centimetres to help the plants grow together more quickly and not long be able to have a lush green carpet.

the link by squee explained all, good link!
