Your fish is stressed and discolored. Variants are usually color specific variations. Hence, you can't really tell if your fishes are not relaxed and colored up. Exceptions being aquarium breed color variants such as super reds.

As for what A. agassizii, why not ask the LFS that you bought it?
It's NOT "Chee lick", NOT "Chee Chee Licks"!!! Cichlids is pronounced as "Sick Lids"!!!!!
