Catfish changes color?

I saw that my L183 looked pale or greyish yesterday evening and I thought it was sick. This morning, it went back to black (or deep blue, I couldnt tell) again. Now, at 4pm, it looks grey again. What happens, do catfishes change color?

When I look at pleco pictures from the web, I always see the same type of plecos showing different colour. Are they variants or was it the lighting effect when the the pictures were taken?

What i know is plecos do change colour with the surrounding eg. tank background colour. but should not be the lightings. IMHO.

Catfishes, like most other fishes, can alter the intensity of their body color to adapt to the surrounding environment. Their body color will vary when the substrate is different in color. When the light is different, you will also see their coloration turning more intense or faded. However, they can't really change color totally like some other fishes.

Usually, these color changes are nothing to worry about. To check if you fish is in good health, make sure it has NO sunken tummy and sunken eyes.
