    Hi all,

I just got some pl*cos from this store at 6th avenue and currently, they're doing ok in my planted tank. But I hope to find out, how do you guys plan a scape that's great for pl*cos coming from different rivers(ie habitats)? I currently have a L134, L260, L24 and Adonis.. Different sizes, different origins, different food needs..

Paiseh newbie here!! Need to learn more!!

I am currently planing a tank for the plecos too.
I refer to planetcatfish.com to understand whether what kind of river system they originate from. Some are from fast flowing waters, so a powerhead will be nice ot have... And wiht fast flowing waters, usualy, alots of rock or slate... Then also consider if you have wood eaters, will need to put in wood for them...

Basically, best scape for plecos is a wood and stone with small caves and hiding places...

Cool thanks!! I wonder if algae will grow in a tank with just wood and rock though? I read that the L024 goes for both meaty and vegetarian foods..

What pl*cos are you getting then? Seriously these guys are a gorgeous addition to any tank!!

I am looking for L260 (wonder where you got yours), L104 and LDA08 (expensive i think)... All the total length (TL) less than 10cm ones...

Just depending on algae is insufficent.. You L260 is also more towards meat although it is a carnivore.... So bloodworm and catfish meat wafer is needed... Algae wafer needs to be supplemented as well...

Try this LFS along Sixth Avenue (opposite Cold Storage Gourmet, Bukit Timah) the guy inside is friendly and he brings in L260s

Problem with pl*cos is they eat at night; I never know which one of them ate the bloodworm and which ate the algae (which bloomed because of extra bioload)...

Read up from the website I gave you... Go to the catalog and search for the pleco you have... Will tell you which one is a herbivour and which is omnivore with what inclination...

Actually, pleco are best kept in sparsely planted tanks. Otherwise, you will have a hard time trying to eye ball them.

L24 and Adonis will grow big and can rip the planted aquascape apart. So no point in dolling up the tank that way. Go have a look at Gecko's tank and be amazed.

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

Yes.. I agree with the Adonis growing to amazing sizes...
And also your Adonis loses its spots when it grows bigger...

Qian Hu used to have this 3ft adonis in one of the show tank... It sure looked ugly, although I like find pleco so adorable...

Water has to be well aerated and filteration has to be....overkill

Once the plecs settle in, most of them will eat in the open even with lights on. My Adonis, etc will come out in search of food when I come back from work as that is the time I turn on the lights...

It is better to try to keep plecs with the same dietary needs as bloated tummy due to overfeeding of high protein food is a common cause of death of plecs which are primarily wood eaters.

Welcome to the exciting world of plecoing

Thanks all for the advice!!! How to see Gecko's pl*co tank have pics here in AQ? And Gecko how much filtration is enough, what kind of filtration you have?

Btw yah just read up that Adonis and L24 can grow to crazy sizes (60cm and 30cm respectively!!) but currently just housing them there for now... The juvenile Adonis is really cute he's already acclimatized and wagging that lyretail all over the tank. The rest are relac-jack in the dark corners for now though, even with food...

I have always why some people does it... until I decided to do some snopping around on the internet.

Pl*co = an internet urban legend or superstition which maintains that if Pleco (for Hypostomus plecostomus, a suckermouth catfish, Loricariidae) is spelled correctly, then the aquarium pet will soon die - hence the asterisk.

Hope I didn't jinxed the discussion here.. but thought some other newbies like me would be interested.

    Cheers!

Gecko houses his 'precious' in a seven footer, water is maintain in a big sump filter. I think he posted a picture awhile back. Search the gallery for it.
