I'm setting up a new tank and thinking of using black gravel.
Just wondering how does it look with plants. Anyone using it and has pictures to show?

    Thanks

    Thanks Yiming.
The reason I'm asking is that I mentioned to a friend that I am going to use black gravel for the new tank and he said there might be contrast problems with black gravel.

I think I've seen a black gravel tank quite a long time ago and it looked fine, but I just want to confirm that it's ok

    Thx

vican, actually black quartz gravel looks good wif contrast to red & green plants.
Used to only have one type on the market- now there is a cheaper version too, a kind that's mix wif little bits of orange glass. The other kind which i like more is pure & a little more expensive than standard river gravel.
i find using it wif certain coloured fishes it does produce better colouration on the fishes. In particular fishes wif black stripes, blue or red colouration.
    U get solid matted colours.

It does tends to absord light as compared to lighter shade of gravels which do reflect a certain amount.so the tank looks a little darker.

black gravel looks slick man! it probably hides all the aglae & darkish stains below the substrate.
    ...I love rubies too ...

you see the same things you see in a tank using normal gravel, but i gotta say this, it does look very slick

Well, I'm thinking of using it for my next project , a 4-5' aro planted tank.
Heard that aros need darker surroundings to look good. Is it true?
