Was a Ben's this morning and saw he had couple of Blue Rams. Wanted to buy a pair, but had a hard time determining the sex. Anyone can advice any obvious features to look out for ?
BTW, with the new space, so much more spacious and more fishes

Look out for the slightly redder belly of the females. That should help you identify.

Bought 2 males 3 days ago and finally found a female yesterday at Ben's. There are a lot of Female Rams at Rainbow Aquarium but quite expensive @ $8.00

Can try to take a look at Amk162. Saw them someime ago.Males were snapped up remaining the females. Those were really brilliant coloured and jumbo at $6 compare with Ben at $5, smaller and duller in colour.

Reviving the old thread instead of starting a new one....

Just got a new 4ft recently and was in the middle of cycling... couldn't resist the beautiful rams at C328... so i went on to buy 6 of them...

of course 2-3 days of cycling isn't going to do much, so as a security measure i went to buy some beneficial bacteria + dechlorinator to add in before i released the fishes some 2-3 hrs later...

So far its been a day, and they seem to be doing well.. but on doing a search for sexing it appears that i might have got all males... its really hard to tell...

Now i am thinking of introducing another 4 rams (hopefully all female)... Know any fish shop i can rely on to assist in selecting female?

Further, is there any way at all that i can identify female rams...

I'm also looking for a nice Cacas pair... spotted any recently?

Do check out the prominent dorsal which appears to be extended on the males....females have slender body while the male is more robust

Have a look at the above thread. Shows the obvious difference between the male and female species.

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

I was trying to buy a pair too today but it is just too difficult when they are not in the spawning mood.

Beside the redder belly and body size, any other more distinctive features?

Specifically, look at the 2nd ray of the dorsal fin... The males will always have a longer one compared to the rest of the rays... The female will only have a slightly longer, slightly only, 2nd ray...

That's the sure bet to sexing... And like you say, the red belly can be difficult if they are not in the mood...
