Just good old fashion co-ordinated stunt driving. I still thinking some of it is faked with blue screen effects or locking the cars together with some kind of frame work... like the 4 cars spinning together.

The two cars landing on the barge and taking off again? Noticed the barge didn't react physically? With a car landing on it like that, if it was really floating, it should have tilted and at least submerged a little.

Vinz, the barge might have a deep hull to offset any bouncing reaction. If the barge 'bounce' too much beyond a certain calculated range, I'm sure the stunt director and coordinator and even the stunt driver would not proceed with the stunts.

The 4 and 2 cars spinning together have an under carriage framework holding these car together. Some of the cars tyre might not be even touching the ground during the spin to facilitate the massive spinning they wanted to project. The 2 cars in the underground footage might even have a framework connected to them.

Maybe you guys can coordinate and replicate these stunts during the outing this weekend!

    BFG,

I was scrutinising the barge segment. Admittedly the quality is not good enough to be really sure, but it does not look like the barge reacted at ALL. And tellingly, they didn't show them taking off nor landing from the start and end points.

Bluescreen technology should be quite well established by the 80s. Starwars was produced in the 70s.

Anyway, I didn't point that out to discredit them. It's well executed ad. In the name of safety and costs, a similar ad these days will be done with more computer graphics.

Have to say though, the car just isn't cool enough for the ad. Or maybe the car is just 'old' in current context.

I think the barge might have been 'beached' with it's hull resting on something underneath it. Or, the damper and suspension spring might have been tweaked to provide a certain 'rebound' upon landing unto the barge. They must've have practised it on land many times to catch exactly how the car will land and move forward when the suspension spring de-compressed.
