I got a second hand Eheim 2250. Among the filter media is a large black circular sponge. I'm wondering if this sponge acts like zeolite or carbon. I need to know cos the filter will be used for a planted tank.

Also, which LFS sells replacement filter media for the 2250?
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

the black one's a carbon filter layer. it's rather thin rite? (as compared to a normal layer of filter) if its 2nd hand I don't think you should use it? get a new carbon filter pad?

Its about 1 to 2 inches thick. Anyway, I do not want a carbon pad in my filter.

    1-2" thick cannot be carbon..

does it sit well in the canister bucket?

chances are they are added by previous owner

i havent seen any 2250 filter media before..think the best bet is petmart? they are abt the only shop that has 2229 O-ring replacements.
