I've had success using some mysis shrimp in my mixture. It's high in protien and doesn't quite make the mess of beefheart.

Garlic is a good thing with all fish. I use it weekly with my marine tank. It boosts the immune system, and just makes them stronger

    Shrimp meal is less messy.

Beef heart is cheap and nutritious but messy.

But beef heart is of the wrong type of protein. What are the chances of a fat cow drowning in the Amazon tributaries and the discus having a chance to eat its carcass?...

Shrimps and fish would be more natural...

Furthermore, beef heart is too fatty for discus and can cause liver problems and indigestion (intestinal problems)... A lot of breeders don't feed beefheart nowadays...
    Read me! http://justikanz.blogspot.com/

    I'm crypt collecting... Starting cheap, now have Cryptocoryne beckettii, C.beckettii var petchii, C.crispatula var.balansae, C.griffithii(Melted! ), C.nurii, C.parva, C.pygmaea(Melted! ), C.tonkinensis(Melted! ), C.walkeri, C.wendtii 'Brown', C.wendtii 'Green', C.wendtii 'Green Gecko', C.wendtii 'Tropica' and Cryptocoryne x willisii

Oh, juggling is hard work, man!...

That's a looooong argument. done that.
Only if you overdo it. A mixed diet is always best agreed.
[The fat and ligaments are removed so it's pretty lean.]

Can't ignore that it's cheap and flown in from countries that don't eat spare parts.

Breeders don't feed adult discus beef heart meal due to several reasons. When fed until too fat adult discus tend to breed less and also less eggs laid during every spawn. Live feed or frozen BW tend to induce spawning. Further more feeding beef heart is more expensive then feeding live food fo these breeders.

Gentlemen, I'm sure DazzleDiscus is appreciative of all this info but please do not digress too far away from main topic. We can start one on Discus's diet if you guys are still up for it. Thanks
Something about the water & the fishes that calms me down.

again, Thank you for all of your info!

actually, my Discus has stopped eating the beefheart mixture. I feed him some flakes, and he kept those down. I also feed him some baby mosquito eaters, and also mosquito larva. He hasn't complained!
