yeah...his tank is really splendid **envy**
im very interested in ada's equipment as well.
but mostly the tank and the glass/metal-ware for aesthetics

what im very curious about is where to get the rocks and dw he uses in his scapes.
i find his rocks and dws very nice
he uses some kinds of stones called "Seiryu stone" and another "Hakkai stone"
no idea where to get them.

Then his dw is called "Old Black Wood'
wonder where he gets them as well.

I saw rocks that are very similar to those used by Amano at Rainbow. You guys should check it out.

    Week 2 Update

    Hi folks,
after 2 weeks the NO2 and NO3 in the tank are really spiking! Is this a normal occurance in the nitrogen cycle or is it due to the fertile ADA aquasoil?

Algae has also started to proliferate so I bought a bottle of ADA Phyton-git from KS today to aid the plants in fighting algae and cyano bacteria.

I added 1 pot of Echinodorus Red Diamond, a small rossette of Echinodorus Aquartica and some stocks of Micranthemum micranthemoides which Alan of Far East pulled out from his tank. I would like to have a lot more MM so I can have them all planted at one go to help me absorb nutrients but nobody seems to have them. Anyone knows where I can get submersed culture of MM?

I'm changing my maintenance regimen to stop algae from going out of control.

    Tank Parameters & Maintenance Regimen

    Photo period
    3 hours per day (2100hrs to 0000hrs)

    Temperature
    25 degree C

    pH
    Lights on: 6.3 - 6.4
    Lights off: 6.2

    Water Hardness
    4 dkH

    NO2
    8 ppm

    NO3
    30+ ppm

    CO2 Fertizalition
In sync with photo period at 1 bubble per second

    Liquid Fertilization
ADA Brighty K daily at 1ml per 20 litre (10 pumps).
ADA Green Bacter at 1 drop per 10 litre. (20 drops)
ADA Phyton-Git at 1 drop per 5 litre per week (40 drops)

    Water Change
    40% every 2 days

Here are some more snapshots of my aquarium from today.

Front view. Stem plants growing fast

3/4 view. Pink leaf plant at bottom right is E. Red Diamond

Top view. Bottom right together with the Rotalas and Ludwigias are the MMs.

Back view. Eustralis stellata. Submersed leaves sprouting.

Thanks |Eddy| but I don't think I'll go all the way to NUS (I live in the East) to pick up an unknown quantity and quality of MM.

    Week 3 Update

    Hi folks,
its been 3 weeks since this aquaria was set up and the nitrogen cycle is finally over. I got some Otocinclus and Yamato shrimps to help clean up the tank and I must say they have done some fabulous work. All the algae in my tank are gone!

Between the last update and now, I have done much tinkering to the tank. I removed the Cyperus helferi, rearrange the plant placements and added some new plants as well. I also added the very beautiful Microrasbora sp. "Galaxy" from Azmi and some Ruby Tetras today.

Here are some pics of how my tank look now.

Shifted the E. stellata in front of the Rotalas. Note the C Wendtii 'Tropica' near the front of the tank.

    E. 'Red Diamond' on bottom right of pic. 2 new leaves have since sprouted within 1 week. New Coffeefolia leaf (on driftwood) also sprouting.

That's 10 pots of submersed MMs in the background I got from Superstar Aquarium in Tampines .

Why do you have such high frequency of water change?

That was a few days ago actually. Cos the NO3 was 40ppm. I guess I will slow down some now. Thanks for pointing it out.

hi, can advise how much your setup costs
looking at a similar setup as yours for a living room corner

    just in general would do.
breakdown by item would be great!

can pm me if you prefer that
would also be interested in knowing where to make an acrylic tank like yours.
am very impressed by its quality and clarity based on pics

    thanks!

    Cloudy Water

Can anyone tell me what causes cloudy water? My aquarium is one-month old but it's water has never been crystal clear since day 1.

For the initial couple of weeks I believe the cloudy water was caused by algae bloom before the filter matures. However, even till now when my tank is almost free of algae, the water is still not crystal clear. Why!?

I don't think its caused by over feeding because I only feed my fishes dry pellet and in only small amount twice a day. I don't think its over fertilizing as well cos over fertilizing would cause algae bloom right?

On a scale of 1-10 for clarity with 10 being crystal clear and 1 being almost opaque, I would rate my tank a 7. Is this normal or am I being super 'kiasu'?

Any insights from experience aquarists would be most appreciated.

Looking at the picture (1 week ago) it looks quite clear. Maybe check your filter it could be dirty. I noticed when during changing water, when pouring the pressure causes particle to swirl around.

I think leaving the water alone would suffice. It will naturally clear. If you keep changing the water, the new water coming into the tank would disrupt the parameter and will make it cloudy again.

Is it probable for filter to be dirty after only 1 month? At what stage did you clean your filter for the first time?

Could feeding frozen food be the cause of it? I now remember I fed the fishes 1 cube (over 2 feedings) of Hikari frozen daphnia the day before the water got cloudy.

i think the water is dirtiest in the 1st month or so
for me personally when new setup i think should clean the filter abit and change the prefilter wool after everything has cycled and grown in

i find that the cycling and plants adaptation stage etc tends to create more gunk that the filter will suck in
when everythin is nice and stable then theres less gunk

IMO, the lone Eheim 2026 may be working too hard. If possible upgrade to 2028 or use two 2026?

I noticed that the filter inlet is not placed near to the soil where loose particles abound.
