There are small normal steel tanks in the market which is quite suitable. But smaller means more frequent topping up.

If you don't mind the work, you can pout in another DIY bottle to get more CO2 injected in your tank. But I would still recomend to get a CO2 tank system. You won't regret it.....

Yes I checked out GenX today and he is bringing in smaller sized tanks next week so that could be the right thing to do. I think the ADA tank would probably last only a month so the logistics of getting replacement cannisters will be madness (not to mention the cost). So Takashi, I am leaning towards getting a normal steel tank at the moment and giving that sexy ADA set up a miss

My DIY bottle is doing 1 bps at BEST so even with two bottles it will be marginal. Don't understand how some people can be doing DIY with a 5ft tank, must be using bionic yeast IMHO the problem with DIY is the stability of the flow rate, even yeast have mood swings

So, are you guys going to be able to clear your stock of CO2 sets?

Yes, you need baking soda, another common name is bicarbonate of soda, selling for $1 at NTUC, sugar is normal fine sugar.

Personally, I can't get my plants to bubble using DIY CO2 but after getting a CO2 set, my plants bubbles a lot. Highly recommended if you are really into planted tank. The 2.3l cylinder is not really that big and heavy. Can carry with one hand. YOu can drop by at Nature to have a look. The 5l tank is bigger and heavy, have to carry with both hand. That one will last for 1 year.

good to hear about the bubbling capability of CO2 set as I've made up my mind to get one. The whole idea of getting a small one is due to space constraint. The tank is in the living room and I don't think a CO2 cylinder makes a very good decor peeping out behind the tank

I need something less than 1 ft high in total so it can hide behind the tank.

I am still surviving with 2 coke bottles DIY CO2 + reactor system for my 5 feet plantedtank. Difficult to convince myself to spend $200 over bucks versus a less than a $1 buck DIY system. No joke I can get my riccia bubbling with the cheapo DIY CO2.

Maybe when I strike lottey or the stockmarket skyrocket then I will reward myself with the pressurised CO2 canister.

On the contrary, it looks very 'chim' to see the tank. Usually I show off the co2 tank when I have visitors over. But a 2L to 3L would be quite suitable for your case. The 5L tank can't last 1 year if you're doing 2 bub/sec (no offence David Loh). Maybe 6 months.... so imagine how a 2L/3L tank last. Top up price won't vary much between these 2 tanks.

well that's what I thought when I looked at the ADA cylinder, can show my frens that I got taste mah unfortunately cannot refill

I also checked with GenX who has quite a bit of ADA stuff, but he doesn't have the refill either.

Did you consider replacement for the carbon plates? I heard it's not cheap. Anyway, for this system, how do you control the CO2 output? It can be adjusted rite?

There is a knob for controlling the flow rate. Comparing with a tank set, i'll think the price it's about the same plus minus.

the carboplus device apparently doesn't work well in softwater because it removes the carbonate (seems like that's where the co2 comes from)

GenX is offering a full set (without solenoid) at $160 which is a tall tank. I'm guessing a smaller tank (1.5-2l) probably goes for $120?

I'm using a DIY CO2... messing around where to put the airstone... finally it ended up just below the surface skimmer...

So those little little CO2 bubbles get suck into the skimmer into the Canister filter... no bubbles came out of the rainbar... so I guess they got disolved into the water inside the canister filter..

The next day all my plants starts to bubble a lot the whole day... wow.. really happy to use the surface skimmer double as a CO2 reactor..
