    Hi! All,

I am having a 90 g community planted tank with CO2 injection and densely planted. As of now I using this lighting arrangement:-

    Philips Trulite (T @ 36 watts 6500 K @ 6 nos @ 12 hrs/day i.e, a total of 216 watts of light.

I am seeing some amount of algae on the stems & leaves near the substrate which I guess is because of insufficient light reaching at the bottom part. So what I am planning is to change the lights to Osram 8000 k (T @ 36 watts @ 8 nos @ 12hrs/day lights as with the later the penetration will be better. Moreover, I want to enhance the light from the present 216 watts to 288 watts.

Suggestion from experts will be highly appreciated.

    Regards,

    Saugata

I do believe that the temperature of the lights will not increase the maximum depth. I remember reading somewhere that its merely the colour temperature differences. Some plants might require a "whiter" spectrum but many in this forum believes that plants can adjust themselves to different colour temperature.

I think those algaes are blackish or brownish. I think those are BBA. Nothing to do with the lights. U have more than sufficient lights to grow plants, don't add more. Btw, 6500 Kelvin is alright for planted tanks. Don't waste extra money. Spend in on perhaps your CO2 or fertiliser.

Thanks so much for the replies. Well reg the CO2 setup I am presently having a pressurised cylinder with a reactor attached to a powerhead for dissolving it in the tank water. Is there any way of improving this system? What abt the Venturi Reactor (the one that Tom Barr uses)? Is it available in Petmart?

There's a write-up on how to make that Tom Barr reactor. See http://www.aquaticquotient.com/forum...ad.php?t=13643
