Yes you can. Basically, your 2226 now becomes a 2026.
I have previously fixed up the 2028 lid on the 2228 filter too. Works fine as the bottom part is all compatible.

Would like to know if the top part of a Eheim 2026 can fit onto the canister of 2226 ?
The top part for eheim2026 is given by my friend.
Cos the lever for my 2226 broke.
If can swap , is the best.
Cannot seems to find this model in the www.eheim.com website.

I suppose now you'll just have to check for the seal rings.
