cannister filter bio foam

hello

i'm using a cannister filter for about 1 yr. it came with the bio-foam (blue colour), been using it together with the biohome and ceremic rings, and the usual sponge etc. notice that the bio-foam contains plenty of waste??? can i use the tank water to wash them off or don't use the bioa-foam at all since tehre's bio-home and ceremic rings inside.

i think its safe to rinse it with tank water.


Yes no matter what media you use, you need to clean it.
ceramic rings etc etc all the same thing. Everythign will get choked some time or another
Canister is not meant to be used without cleaning until it breaks down! [:]

the time will come when you need to change the filter media
don't wait till your fish start to drop like flies before changing
as a rule of thumb, service your filter every month
when you notice the media turning a dark shade of green or black, it's time to replace about 1/2 of the media in the tank
i recommend using filter floss because it cleans the water well and it has a lot of surface area
