akoh, you may wish to consider the digital slr. the new models from both nikon and canon are both supposed to be very good. you can then continue to use the lenses that you have (provided you are a nikon or canon user of course). but quite ex i think.....

you use a casing for your slr during underwater shots? or do you have a underwater camera? always wonder if casings are safe enough? knew of someone who lost two Nikon F90x because of leak[]

yah, no need to start war on camera. anyway mine is not nikon nor canon slr.

i have canon s40 digital cam. firstly don't like the focusing. manual focus is hopeless. secondly i don't like the washed-out highlight of the aquarium photos. but the daily photos are fine. it's the high contrast lighting of the aquarium. while surfing the web, i came across a software called BreezeBrowser which have a feature to process the RAW file from canon and produce good highlight. this is what i cut from their web:

"BreezeBrowser's combined raw conversion option uses sophisticated image processing techniques to combine the best features of normal conversion and linear conversion. This results in images with excellent color and improved highlight detail."

    well, will see...

ps: looks like we are slowly getting OT (out of topic)[]

Hi Lip ! I have been eyeing on the Nikon D100 for quite some time now but have to " put on hold " coz' the SEA & SEA U/water System and some other Japanese brands for this D.Camera is damn EX. ! [].
I'm Currently using a N9 Subal housing for Nikon F90X, Dome and Macro ports for 16mm F2.8 Fisheye and 105m F2.8 Macro lens, Strobe lights are 2 units of SB105 and /or Ikelite 400 and complete set of Ultra Light U/water Arms Sytem. I also have a complete system for Nikon V ( Wide, Macro and Close-up Photograhpy ).
" Flooding of the System " is every Underwater Photographer nightmare, hence I usually do a 1st check out dive with the housing ( without the camera ) to check for any leaks especially the joints and knobs. Well IMO - just have to be more careful during set-up ![] cheers !

    Hi wee ! yeap ! that me ! ( my avatar !), Cheers ! []

Hi akoh, I have dived on and off for the past 10 years, but a lot (i mean A LOT)of off [:] . Therefore I m still quite a novice diver. only got open water (but have done dives that i m not supposed to do lor...)

places that i have dived in? around Malaysia, once in Mauritius. can't tahan live-onboard, so choices quite limited lah. Last dive was more than 1 year ago. too many interests pulling me in dif directions. so end up not being good at any []

Canon isn't the best of the best. But unless you are the superbly pro or gonna spend your life into serious dedicated photography, canon does well enough.

Think of it this way, if you compare prices, canon is better. But nikon has the higher end range which is superbly good and the price is also something beyond us too. So stick with canon, should suffice hobbyist, even serious ones.

But if you got all the cash in the world... who cares?

One more thing for aquarium photography, you can try to add more lights. Makes it much brighter and therefore you can reduce your shutter speed to catch those fast moving fishes.
Other things include making sure your glass is clean, no algae or fingerprints.

that's APP. actually i have removed them last weekend. i started off trying both APP and glosso but like glosso better as it is spreading like thin carpet. so will let it take over the whole area. anyway too many diff plants already.

    juggler,

u can diminish the greenish cast by using a FL-D filter. But if your flash is strong enough and cover the area well, there shouldn't be any problem with the greenish cast at all. check your setting.

since u mentioned this, don't mind sharing that these photos were taken with carl zeiss lenses. but don't think u can see any difference in the scanned images on PC monitor.
