Hi guys,
Doing some research on fish disease and just found out that fish tuberculosis can be transmitted to human! Infection is usually through broken skin when hands are submersed in water and confine to only rashes in the hands, non fatal..If you are interested, the bacterial is group under Mycobacteria, Mycobacterium marinum being one of them.
Something about the water & the fishes that calms me down.

i recall reading one website about a local hobbyist who died after contracting fish tuberculosis but can't find the link now.
There's also, if I am not wrong, a well established link between Salmonella and the red-eared sliders (although other reptiles can also be carriers) so popular as children's pets. But maybe there's no reported correlation locally because people assume food poisoning incidents stem from eating tainted food rather than poor pet hygiene.

There are a lot of diseases from fish and reptiles and amphibians that we keep in our homes that can affect humans... That's the reason why a lot of books will recommend using gloves when handling tank stuff if we have cuts or wounds/burns on out hands/arms...

Look up fishkeepers thumb or fishkeepers finger. Apparently it's quite common for fish keepers to contract this 'disease'.
