Let us work together to preserve the world for our children to inherit by being responsible to our surroundings. Take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints, bubbles and memories.

Since they print the specs on their website, I can take their word for it.
Main thing is its cost compared to a refridgerant chiller.
If they refuse to make known the price, it feels as though different prices might be quoted to different people. I know they don't meant it that way, but I feel most people's 1st reaction would be this.
vican,
i can understand your worries.. but my friend from EIDO told me that the reason for that mkting method was to entice ppl to at least take a look at the product than to dismiss it right away because of the price factor..which, unfortuately, most of us are bother by price..![]()

I understand. But is it cheaper or more expensive than a normal chiller?
i think u have to decide for yourself a couple of issues.
1. does it does the job the product is suppose to perform?
2. what is the energy consumption?
if given a choice, say, product A and B.
Product A is cheaper than B in terms of a couple of hundreds say like $200. but consumed 400W as compared to 300W for product B.. which will u choose?
if it is a one time off investment, i take product B coz if i weigh the cost over months or years, it is relatively much cheaper for me.. in terms of energy consumption.. do think abt it.. u might beg to differ though..[]

I've not been following prices of chillers. So, does the Eido chiller use more electricity than conventional chillers?
nope... from what i know.. it consume 288W round off to 300W compared to other brands of chillers at 400W[:]

so eido chiller is cheaper than convention chillers?
if u are talking abt energy consumption in the long run, yes.. but to some ppl, the initial payment for the "locally-made" product, they find it a bit ex.. but u need to think long term instead of short.. like the eg i had given... if i'm not wrong, the price is ard $1350..[:]

Ok. Thanks. Finally I know the approx price of the chiller!
I just wonder how much power consumption the whole tank setup will use...
300W for lights, another 300W for chiller = 600W.
How much do we pay for electricity bills just for our hobbies??
Out of interest, how much more do we pay for electricity for 8hrs/day of 600W ?

Hi
An alternative:
For those with Small Tank/Nano Reef or going for a miniature reef display, but are frustrated with the high price of a chiller, I am bringing an alternative which you might want to consider:
IceProbe Thermoelectric Aquarium Chiller
* 50 Watts of Cooling Power
* Easy Bulkhead Installation
* Quiet, Efficient & Reliable
* Environmentally Friendly
In typical aquariums, one IceProbe can reduce the temperature of 10 gallons of water 6 to 8 °F, 20 gallons of water 3 to
4 °F, and 40 gallons of water 1 to 2 °F. Multiple IceProbes are commonly used in aquariums over 20 gallons to achieve higher temperature differentials.
In fully insulated aquariums (i.e. egg hatching, bait, and specimen aquariums), one IceProbe can reduce the temperature of 10 gallons of water over 20 °F.
Ideal for small tank. No need to invest in a noisy, compressor-type chiller.
Please let me know if you are interested as I am establishing the distribution channel to cater to small tank/nano reef aficionados like us who have limited space, limited time and limited resources and yet want to take pleasure in the joy of having a wonderful marine life mini-world.
Rough estimate of a single IceProbe, with Proportion temp Controller and 240Vac option is S$460/- Comments always welcome!

FYI, IceProbe Thermolelectic Aquarium Chiller work the same technology with EIDO chiller. In Simple words, they using rev. + & - current, fans & heatsink to cool the water. There're numbers of brand in US for this kind of chiller which price wise much cheaper than EIDO. For eg. same supplier for the IceProbe also have another model avail. for 75 US gal. tank just like EIDO which cost only US$399.9. If to buy on line, the freight from US to Singapore (FEDEX) would be at US$129.3. Total Cost will be at US$529.20 est. S$952.30 per unit. problem is that is it ready work if you buy on line and U also need a convertor (110 to 240)to operate in Singapore. If problem occurs, where the support?? EIDO are selling the model for $1300 with local support anytime, talk to them, they may give U a better price. I got one unit from them which running in my 4ft tank. Facing some minor problem but they have promise to lookinto it FOC. What I can said is that Tech. Support is impt. to own such goods...Rgds

What kind of problem did you have with your Eido chiller?

Well...just one of the fan is not working properly. Had change to a new unit. Running well now...As my tank is full of live rocks, it take a few days to cool down. Currently, my tank water temp is around 26oC.

Is it really worthwhile to get the Eido at S$1300-$1350 when you can get the Teco for S$1400-S$1450?
Teco has a new model that replaces the RA680 call TW6. Basically the same specs, but improved technology. Suppose to be more user friendly and quiet. Don't forget that at 25 degrees, the Teco's capacity is 1200 litres. Most 4 feet tanks have a volume of 240 to 350 liters. This means that operational cost in the long run is lower and less wear and tear.
Seems that Teco is cheaper if you take the above into consideration......

Benny.. may i know the energy consumption for that model, TW6???
IMO, operational cost in this case should be the amt of electricity consumed.. not the amt of water that it can chill.. that is just a small part.. coz IMO, if TECO consume more (say 400W)but produce the result almost instantly while EIDO system consume (300W) but takes a day to bring down the temp, running both system at the same time, u will definitely find that the one with 400W, the electrical bill will definitely goes up..
and to add to that.. i would rather let the temp go down slowly to let the corals and fishes acclimatise to the temp than to have the temp starting to drop quickly.. which, IMO, might cause some form of damage internally.. []
just my 2 cents worth.. i might be wrong and ppl might have other ideas such as.. i pay so much i want to see instant results.. [:]

Teco need 420W.
If you set Teco's thermostat at 25 deg, it will only kick in when the temp rises above 25 deg. The lag time to cool the ambient water temp. to the desired temp. will be reduced due to the larger capacity. This should be better for the tank as the variance of the temp. is reduced (My assumption).
As the capacity is greater, the Teco is not on all the time. This should reduce the electrical running cost. Same as air-con, if you turn it on for 5 mins, it does not mean that it would cost the same as turning it on for a full day. Total power consumption needs to considered. The duration that the machine is turned on will ultimately decide you running cost.
Also, the wear and tear will be a lot less if it's running below capacity.
Lastly, Eido may generate less heat and noise (my assumption) since it does not have a compressor. If the Teco is not turned on, it doesn't either.
Actually, there other brands of chillers, but may not be in S'pore. E.g Nisso (Jap brand?) has a model (NC-160) for about HK$2600. Azoo (or is it Aquazoo?), they have a model too for around HK$3700. This point digresses, but basically, options available to S'pore aquatic hobbyist seems quite limited.
My considerations:
1. Reliability/track record
2. Running cost
3. Noise & heat
4. Service & warranty (No cheaper HK alternatives)
5. Price

Oh..one more thing.
We should be comparing apples to apples. If the Eido's capacity is 500 litres at 25 degrees then we should compare it with the Teco RA240 instead of RA680 as that's 1200 litres.
Teco RA240
Electrical power : 220W
Dimension: 445 X 335 X375
Weight: 18 Kg
Digital thermostat: Yes
Digital thermometer: Yes
At 25 degrees, RA 240's cooling capacity is 500 liters. Even at 20 degrees, the capacity is 300 litres. Just enough for 4 feet tanks. The price for this model should be around S$1200 to S$1300. Check their site http://www.tecosrl.com for the quick selection chart to help you compare the correct models.
Do take note that most dealers/suppliers will not recommend Teco as they do not have a good relationship with Aquatechnic. As such they seem to push other brands instead.

Do agreed with benny on points listed like have to compare apple to apple. Hope EIDO can come out a comparision table or chart on items been pointed out above like price, consumption, size etc. This I think will help most of local buyer to make a decision. I believe there a lot of ppl. will like to purchase this brand only problem there still much ???? to ans. I personaly have just purchased a EIDO unit for my 4ft tank but due to this is my 1st. chiller owned, I'm not in a good position to comment with other brands. Hope other owner like TECO R240 can have some feedback on the unit use so far. Like running cost, heat & noise level? Lastly, I just can comment :
1. Heat level - A bit high for the 1st timer, dun not abt other brands like Teco
2. Noise - acceptable range, lower than 6units set of Ocean Free coller fan
3. Size - Slim and look good
4. Technology - As I have been in contact with this type of techonology in my work place. I can just said... no break down time yet.
5. Service/support level - For the past few weeks, I have been getting a very good support/service from them.
6. Price - Agreed....a bit on the high side but I believe they got no choice due to the nos. of unit manufacturer per batch..no Economic of Scale yet.
7. Running cost - so far the unit been running for 24 hrs no stop.....Yet to find out by end of the mth.
Rgds
