i assume EIDO is working on a principle akin to peltier cooling?

if so, the noise factor will be paramount for me
if i have a tank in my bedroom i sure as well won't want it to wake me up in the middle of the night with a jerk and a hum

Perhaps there could be a permanent section on equipment and specification listed by type or brand. In this section, there could be updates (new models, accessories or compatible alternatives), long term reviews (running cost, reliability). I am not talking about trying to replicate the official websites of the various products nor a "where to buy at cheapest price" discussion, but a database/resource with relevant user information for all the users/potential users. Very much like a fish/plant database. This database could be a sub section of of the "Equipment" room. In fact, none of the other forums have it. Just a thought..

Hey WANGZX, looking forward seeing your review on running cost next month!

Benny.. perhaps u can suggest this to liquidfx or simon.. coz this idea will simply go out to those who uses chillers, regardless whether FW or SW.. or for other purposes..but nevertheless, it is a good idea...[]

Do agreed with benny on points listed like have to compare apple to apple. Hope EIDO can come out a comparision table or chart on items been pointed out above like price, consumption, size etc. This I think will help most of local buyer to make a decision. I believe there a lot of ppl. will like to purchase this brand only problem there still much ???? to ans. I personaly have just purchased a EIDO unit for my 4ft tank but due to this is my 1st. chiller owned, I'm not in a good position to comment with other brands. Hope other owner like TECO R240 can have some feedback on the unit use so far. Like running cost, heat & noise level? Lastly, I just can comment :
    1. Heat level - A bit high for the 1st timer, dun not abt other brands like Teco
    2. Noise - acceptable range, lower than 6units set of Ocean Free coller fan
    3. Size - Slim and look good
    4. Technology - As I have been in contact with this type of techonology in my work place. I can just said... no break down time yet.
    5. Service/support level - For the past few weeks, I have been getting a very good support/service from them.
    6. Price - Agreed....a bit on the high side but I believe they got no choice due to the nos. of unit manufacturer per batch..no Economic of Scale yet.
    7. Running cost - so far the unit been running for 24 hrs no stop.....Yet to find out by end of the mth.
    Rgds

yes.. i do agree with benny and wangx on comparing apples with apples.. and as well as the comparision chart.. that will definitely help new buyers to do some comparision...

Wangx.. waiting for your electrical statement at the end of the month.. hahaha.. []

Benny, i do agree with u that when the temp is up, the chiller will kick in.. but while running at "idle", is it consuming the same amt of energy or less? me not too sure thus the qn.. []

    Hi Kelstorm,

On the point of running on idle with reference to the electrical requirements, perhaps this analogy will help.

Similar in principle, most Hi Fi and TV sets will require X watts of electrical power to operate at full capacity. However, it does not utilise the full requirement on standby mode, only a fraction of the stated requirements. Therefore, the Teco chiller should not need 420 watts on idle mode, probably only 10 watts or less to maintain the digital thermosat and thermometer. Again, this is my assumption.

Anyway, I do have a Teco chiller, but can't tell you on the exact power consumption on idle. Sorry!

Hi Benny, So you have the Teco chiller ah.....care to share some info. like :
    1.what model used
    2.the monthly electric cost
3.What temp. you set and is it always turn on, I hope to reach at 26 but seem can not achieve it. The lowest is at 27 with room temp at 31. Currently, the chiller has been on 24hrs no stop for 4days liao.

I know Hailea-AquaMedic Chiller model HL-380CA electric bill is around $40/- per mth. How abt yours? Hope to heard from you soon...Rgds

Hi ppl. Just rec'd my PUB bill.......
    [] [] []
have been running for 2 weeks 24 hrs non stop. Est. operating cost cal. should be around $20/- to $25/- per mth. Currently, my house room temp is at 31oC and this chiller is only able to pull down by 4oC which lead the temp. at 27oC constant. Good or bad is up to you.....

Sorry, I don't mean to disappoint anyone by chance. But just wish to express my thought here.

I'm using a household fan to blow at my tank (with a specific angle). The water temperature is constant at 29 deg C and worst for hot day is about 30 deg C.

So with chiller, you can only pull down the temp to 27 which is only 2 deg difference from mine. Seems like the efficiency of this chiller is so so only.

Kel, how about you? what is your temp achieved in your tank with the chiller ?

I'm thinking of getting a chiller in near future so now doing some homework first.

Hi, I use to use cooling fans. A set of 6units of Ocean Free fan and a powerful computer fan. Total 7 units and just able to get the temp. at 30-31 on the hot day. For some ppl. using fans only can already achieve their temp. at 27oC that all very depend where you live. FYI, my house is at the 11 fl. last unit, no wind, direct sun and at normal day, temp can reach 32oC just like last few days. Cool day, w/fans, temp maintain at 28 to 29oC. If it rain for whole day, the room temp reduce to let say 29oC. My tank with cooling fan can only reach 27.5-28 and not lower. I just the 'unlucky' ppl. who live in warm zone lah....no choice have to get a chiller, lost 4 hard corals..... Franking speaking, EIDO model is not so suitable in my enviroment. A compressor unit chiller will do the job better but, think of the heat, noise, size, operating cost....EIDO meet my requirements. If I had to install EIDO chiller in a tank which w/ cooling fan can maintain at 28 let said....I would said, w/ EIDO chiller, water temp can reduce to 24oC....Believe or not still up to U. Why i trust this type of tech. is becos' my company uses the same tech in the medical device which temp. must reach 2-8 oC at all time.....Rgds

same here.. staying on a high ground at 29th floor, i do get cool weather.. but it all depends where the wind is blowing.. i usually leave the windows open.. and with everything in order.. my tank temp is abt 30 - 31 Degrees... but near the end of the yr, when the weather changes, my tank can achieve 28.5 - 29.5 degrees...and this is without any fans or chiller.. anyway.. to get a chiller.. i think i had better wait till i get my own place in another 2-3 yrs time.. if not, finance minister will complain.. hahahhaa..[]
meanwhile, due to the fluctuating temp, me stop keeping corals and only have fishes.. and beginning to like the fishes only tank.. less hassle.. [] getting lazy.. hahaha.. anyway.. if i do keep corals.. it will be softies..
