Guys,
I plan to ask my friend to bring me USA moss (from San Francisco to Indonesia). But likely will have problem in the airport. I heard we can't bring liquid things, means we can't put the moss in bottle filled with water.
How about wrapping the moss with wet cotton wool & put them in plastic bottle (mineral water bottle)? Is it okay...?
Anyone having experience with this?
Or maybe guys from USA have any suggestions...?
Thanks in advance...![]()

I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?
i would wrap the moss in a few layers of moderately damp newspaper and put the lot into a clear zip-lock type of plastic bag and then flatten it a little.
Check it in as stated. They're not allowing anything with liquids in them and scanning everything nowadays. If they find something suspicious, they'll toss it on the spot.
Also, have you considered just shipping the moss? I've shipped to Singapore before and haven't had a problem.
Eric
Since shipping them more costly, so I rather use this very rare opportunity, asking my friend to bring them when he is going to travel back to Indonesia.Originally Posted by Ibn

Yes the officers scan everything, that's why I'm afraid the moss won't get through scanning![]()
OK, will try your suggestions, thanks guys...
Btw, may I know what kind of moss you sell / ship, & how much the cost?
This is a cheeky answer. Pack it in a sandwich and pack it on carry-on luggage?

anyway i think the newspaper method is the safest way.
Don't know, shipping was pretty cheap. I shipped it for around $10 and it made it there in like 4 days.
Sorry but I no longer ship any mosses. Used to ship Fissidens fontanus and Kindbergia oregana (from Yosemite).
Eric
Just curious, what moss is that, only know there is a Singapore moss but dun know there is USA moss?? Sorry for my limited knowledges..

What I mean USA mosses are mosses which originally from USA.
I know fissidens fontanus (although only from pics, never seen the real thing), but kindbergia from Yosemite never saw, will try googling...
Thanks for all the answers guys...
Btw, anyone interested to taste moss sandwich...?![]()
Christmas moss sandwich also available this December...
Angel,
If you don't need a terribly large amount, (a turf of moss the dimensions of a Rp 20,000 note is A LOT of moss) it is easiest to sandwich it between wet sheets of kitchen tissue/newspaper and put into a small ziploc bag and post it by airmail. It is cheap and trouble free.
To be cautious, pack different mosses into different letters and post them.
If you're into mosses, you should visit this site:

The folks there been posting moss all over the world to swop with each other.

Kindbergia oregana.
Another moss from Yosemite.
As for the Fissidens fontanus, it's the moss tied to the rock in the lower left hand corner.

Where can I get moss from both San Francisco and Jakarta? I visit very often and got the Fissidens fever very bad. Got a 8ft tank to fill up. Will be in Singapore next week to hunt for Japanese Fissidens. Any idea who has them in stock? Then heading over to Jakarta. There is a great shop called 'Java Moss' next to the Grand Hyatt mall.

Fissidens is pretty rare still. In my plant club (300+ members), there's only a handful of people keeping the moss, myself included. If you're looking for moss though, a good place to check is Aqua Forest in San Francisco. They carry pretty much the full line of ADA products and there's always some sort of moss or another in their tanks (Fissidens isn't one of them).
Eric
Do you have their loction?
Hmm, I knew you'd ask. Here it is.

Oh, juggling is hard work, man!...
Nope, no Fissidens there since it doesn't grow fast enough, plus it's not something that shows up on the lists. Only source of it around here is from our plant group.
