took over a sera fe test kit from someone. did a test today. the reading is almost 0. the instruction mentioned that a healty tank should have 0.5-1 mg/l of fe. do i need to raise the level by fertilizing? of couse i know the consequence of excessive fe.

i did make sure that the test kit is still working by testing a diluted fe furtilizer. not sure of the accuracy though.

wee, I'm very new to planted tank but quite sure that you need to raise essential iron level by fertilising. I would just follow the recommended dosage for your tank size and frequency. Just don't over fertilise otherwise you may get algae.

Most aquatic articles recommends 0.1ppm (mg/L) of Fe whereas the List of recommended Levels and Parameters article recommends 0.2 - 0.7ppm of Fe.

But important is to see if the plants are showing Fe deficiency in the first place. Not necessary to overdose and get algae problems.
