    Hi All!

New to this forum. I recently acquired a pair of Apistogramma pertensis. Has any one any tips on breeding this species of apisto any links etc. Here's some pictures of my fish.

    Hello Curtis

    Welcome to Aquatic Quotient.

    Nice specimen you got there.

Wild caught A.pertensis originate from very soft and acidic clear water. Maintaining pH of 4- 6.5, giving them ample space in the tank with leaf litter and lots of hiding space might help facilitate them to spawn.

Thanks cacatuoides and Eugene. For the compliments That is what i have read pretty low ph acidic water. The good thing is I think i am half way there they are doing the belly nudging and swishing at each other. So I think they are paing up from what i have heard and read they are picky about their mates and looks like they like each other. I have my Fingers crossed for them to spawn they are not a very common apisto here in the U.S.

I got lucky I actually bought/traded for them as a quad of gephyra sight unseen. i got 2 female gephyras and a pair of pertensis for a pair of F1 A.pebas morado and 2 female A.borellii so worked out pretty well. Now to find a male gephyra and all will be well.

    Breeding Apistogramma pertensis

I still have more than 10 over fries from my first breeding of A.pertensis.

It was quite easy for me, maybe just luck. I left a pair in a blue tub and out in the open air in my garden with only a small air pump. The tub is covered with floating plants. It must be the rain and shine that stimulate the breeding.

So far I have been successful with Caca Orange Flash and A.hongsloi, but in these cases, I would normally lost at least one of adults.

My greatest interest in fish hobby is to breed them.

Hi Crazy dragon you wouldn't happen to have any pictures of your female in breeding colors would you. Or any one out there?

    Yee Haaa

Hi All. Yeee Haaaa This texans done it. I have only had these guys 3 weeks last sun and with the help of you all I got my pertensis to spawn. Thanks for the suggestions and pics. I have been watching them now for a week closely and started seeing paring then dancing and cave cleaning well it paid off.

Last night they spawned for me. I knew something was up when the entrace to cave/pot was covered with gravel. I unfortunatly can't leave the eggs with parents because my water is so alkaline 400-600ppm KH that eggs just don't develop or only 1-5 do. My water is from a well filtered through Texas limestone, hence the alkalinity. It is very soft 25ppm GH but when you measure it pH wise, it reads 8.4 or higher. i have absolutly no problem keeping soft water fish in it, just spawnings are not so good, egg development wise. So I artifically hatch my soft water fish. Using a 1 quart jar DI water and acid buffer and 3% hydrogen peroxide as antifungal, I get about a 75-90 % hatch rate. Anyway, heres some pics of the eggs and parents.

    Curtis
